Hurricane ****** occurred and we were unable to get down to FL our insurance company said they could send out a contractor to secure our home after it sustained hurri an damages. The company sent an agreement for the work but did not detail the amount they would charge the insurance company. They used 2 tarps and 2 pieces of plywood and charged our insurance company which then charged us $6800. I was expecting an exorbitant amount, maybe $1000-$1500 but never did I ever thing it would we $6800. This is extortion and surge pricing. Their was no discussion or negotiations and apparently no recourse. This is warning to other to beware.

      Ms. ********,

I'm sorry that this is the result of your experience with our company. As you say, you were unable to get to your home, but we did, within 48 hours in the middle of a catastrophe. We provide this service to be a convenience and to provide piece of mind for others who have never or are not currently able to navigate these situations. With regards to your invoice, there is no gouging or surge pricing. The industry uses a program, and we subscribe to that program. It is simply data in and data out with no opportunity to manipulate. We simply estimated for the services as performed. If you are upset with your carrier, that would be a matter between you and them. It' has often been my experience in these situations, that even the good contractors that do the best possible job to assist folks in need often become targets themselves as people take advantage of Platforms like this to shame others for a system which they don't understand. I've checked our records and have noted that this item never came across my desk for resolution or review. Perhaps cooler minds could have prevailed.

      Regards,

I am rejecting this response because:

I have asked your company for an appeal and for a copy of an itemized invoice. Your company has refused to provide the invoice and advised I go through the insurance company. I was able to receive this non-itemized invoice yesterday from Heritage. I have asked for a review and appeal via my insurance company as well.  I have received no appeal rewponse from either party. I was not given a quote by your company nor an invoice for the services until yesterday to even be able to see the actual charges to dispute them. You're correct a catastrophe occurred, it is not an opportunity to make a quick buck off of the disadvantaged. It's unconscionable. 2 tarps and 2 pieces of plywood no matter how you slice it don't amount to $6103.79, catastrophe or not. Its extortionate pricing to be certain. That is the epitome of price gouging. Not providing a quote or the invoice to the customer as requested is also questionable business practice.

We spoke with FEMA, they advised the max we should have been charged was $1500. We tried speaking to your company and ******************* I had no choice but to contact the BBB and also file a price gouging complaint with the ** of FL, so others are aware and cannot be preyed upon in the future.

I'd be appreciative if you would review the attached invoice and explain the pricing that you say I'm ignorant of. As you said it never made it to your desk, but it has now. So here is your opportunity to make it right. I have all the text messages between myself and your company representatives.  I don't work in the industry, your correct, and if it's a computer algorithm how would I be privy to its calculations?!  It would be like me expecting you to know about kidney transplant with no medical knowledge or training. A truly poor response to a legitimate complaint.

Here's hoping for some cooler heads to prevail indeed. For you to take some accountability and review the documents you claim never made it to your desk and make it right.

      Sincerely,

      ******* ********

Attached are our invoice to ******************* as well as excerpt examples from the estimating platform used by both insurers and restoration firms alike. These estimating platforms are agreed pricing for services rendered. We were dispatched by a carrier and provided authority by you to perform emergency services.

While Heritage has not responded, We have, only to receive further hostilities from you while you go on to 'hope' cooler heads prevail. You have also now accused our firm of calling you ignorant, which is in no way inferred in our previous response.

We have been transparent with the BBB and The State AG regarding your complaint as all of our actions have been above board.

I welcome you to submit the texts you have with our office for review.  If communication and escalation were indeed made and went unnoticed, I would be inclined to review with you.

With regards to what you say FEMA advised,  I'd like to see that in writing, FEMA was not at your home at 7:00 in the morning making every attempt to protect your belongings while we were.

The damage to your mobile home was certainly severe, but handled swiftly by our firm as directed by you and your carrier. Were you to consider a retraction of your inflammatory remarks towards our firm, I would be happy to further review your invoice and discuss this matter with you.
