Company has sent me 50 email invoices for $75.00 each since June 10. I had previously asked the merchant to stop , but they will not . I would like to complain that the merchant should stop sending so many invoices for no services rendered. Total of all the invoices as of 7/2/2025 would be $3,750 which is really odd.Business Response

Happy Handyman , did not show up for an estimate for services on 6/11/2025, and then is now trying to invoice me for $75 cancellation fee. Apparently they believe they have right to charge consumers with no prior contractual agreement in place . The organization then texted me from ************ to tell me that they will continue to invoice me if I dont pay this scam fee, and report me to the credit bureau with late fees. I cant imagine how many other consumer are getting scammed on these aggressive tactics , and so felt the obligation to report it. *** asked the company to stop all further contact and that we will now not go forward with any first estimates for any services.Business Response

The customer scheduled an appointment with ********************** for Tuesday, June 10, 2024. We always call the customer when we are on the way as stated in writing and on the phone. The technician called and texted the customer when he was on the way. Since the technician did not hear back from the customer, the technician called me and I called and texted the customer. (We can provide screenshots of the phone calls the technician and I made as well as the texts that were sent). The customer did not answer the phone, so I left a message. The customer never called back but sent a text telling me that I was a fraud and a scammer. The customer was sent an email confirmation stating the if the appointment is not cancelled within a 24-hour period there would be a $ ***** cancellation fee. This is our policy and businesses have a right to charge a cancellation fee. All the customer had to do was have the decency to call and cancel the appointment so we could have booked another job in that place so the company would not have lost any revenue. The cancellation fee will remain and the late fees will continue to be charged.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
Contract law states that you need a signature, an agreement to charge fees. In this situation i am consumer , not your customer because we have no contractual agreement in place to pay for an estimate for services . As result we owe Happy Handyman nothing. Your company was also a no show for the appointment.I have asked happy handyman to stop emailing and contacting our family about collection of $75 fee for no services rendered. I am not their customer and have no prior work performed at our location by their company. I think the federal communications *** has some protections for consumers that continue to receive unwanted emails and texts after an organization such as Happy Handyman had been asked to stop.
Regarding the threat to report consumers to the credit bureau, keep in mind that credit bureaus are for loans and there are Consumer Finance Protections.
Please leave us alone. I found several other reputable merchants for my home project that are not behaving like the Happy Handyman organization.
Sincerely,

As previously stated, the customer was sent notification that a cancellation fee did apply. Screenshots were supplied showing we made an attempt to contact him several times, saying we were a no show is incorrect. He never responded to our attempts until the day after his appointment was scheduled and the screenshots show that. As a business, I have a right to have policies and procedures established for my company. When the customer received the confirmation email and the details all he had to do at that point is decline the appointment, again he did not. He keeps saying he doesn't pay for estimates, I am not sure why he keeps stating that because we do not charge for estimates, but we do charge if a cancellation notice is not given. If he would have told us in advance he did not want us to come then he should have had the simple courtesy to cancel the appointment so we could have had an opportunity to book another job in that spot. He states that he will not work with Happy Handyman that is fine because we will never work for this customer so I'm not sure what his point is. As far as reporting to the credit bureaus, I am an approved data furnisher with Equifax to be able to report any monies owed to my company. If someone owes money, I have every right to contact them to collect money owed to my company. "In *******, missed appointments without a 24-hour cancellation notice incur a fee. However, there is no specific CPT code for missed appointments. Businesses can charge for appointment scheduling or cancellations." He keeps spouting all the rules and regulations from the *** but has not shown any proof to back what he is stating. Here is the rule from the *** regarding cancellation fees for small businesses in *******, the following point applies: "Consumers may incur liabilities if they attempt to cancel outside the allowed timeframe or fail to follow procedures." Our business states this policy on our home page with the BBB so if customers view our information, it is clearly stated. If they do not want to comply with these terms or agree with them, they have no obligation to call our company. We do not want to work with someone who has such low regards for small businesses. Once again, we are owed the cancellation fee, we will continue to collect through all avenues possible.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:Happy Handyman LLC has no basis to collect. They decided not to come out for their estimate. They made a decision to not come out after trying to call, consumers are not always able to answer their phones on demand, and that does not drive causation for small businesses to cancel appointments and charge junk fees for what was to be an estimate for services. If they had come out as scheduled we would have discussed the project with desire for an estimate for services only. Since they decided to not come for the scheduled appointment, I have no further contractual obligations with this organization. I have moved on with other reputable service vendors that had been shared from Angis list.
I will not pay the fee, and if the junk fees emails continue , then I will seek out other multiple consumer protections involving fair trade.
Sincerely,
*** *********Initial Complaint

I contacted this company about screens. After I made the appointment my property manager notified me that the company handles that. I contacted them and cancelled. Then all of a sudden I get a call from a tech saying he will be by tomorrow. I advised him I would not need the service and had already cancelled. He seemed upset he wasnt notified and then I started getting all these cancellation bills for fees, that I was never told about or knew existed. I disputed these charges and the company sent me a print out of an email that they sent to me, that I never received or confirmed receipt. Now this charge started at $75 in April 2024. Now I have bills for $85 for April, another for $193.75 and most recent $230. For a service I never received and cancelled but company is trying to bully money from me.Business Response

Every time a customer requests an appointment, they are sent a confirmation email that states the details and are also verbally told the information regarding the cancellation fees. We have this in our email because if a customer does not cancel within the appropriate time, it does not give the company time to schedule another appointment. If a person does not cancel as requested, it costs the company money. As you can see in the details listed in BBB it states that on the website as well, I don't understand her complaint. I don't understand why this is such a shock because all business have this policy. An invoice is sent out every month with the opportunity to pay the invoice, if the invoice is not paid within 30 days there is a late fee. Again, not sure why this is a shock because all business have late fees. This client did not have the respect or the common courtesy to consider the costs to businesses. When businesses lose money, they have to increase their pricing to cover issues like this. The fee will not be waived and the invoice will remain standing. The late fees will continue, and it will be reported to the credit bureau. We are a very reputable and professional company.
I have attached the original invoice giving the client the opportunity to pay the cancellation fee as well as a copy of the confirmation email. The email also states even though a response is not given by the customer the fee still applies. People think that because they don't confirm then the fee does not apply to them.

On Apil 29, 2024 I was unable to call the company to cancel a appointment to come to my house. When I called the company, happy handyman llc they told me there would be a charge of $75.00; however, I never knew they sent me an email with this threat until ******************* told me I need to check my Spam and on Monday, April 29, 2024 I did check my Spam and the email sent to me told me that I needed to respond which I didn't respond because I didn't know I had any emails from that company and never remembered making the appointment. While talking to ******************* with the company she very rudely told me if I didn't pay the $75.00 then I will get charged additional $10.00 monthly and then she threaten me and told me she would put a lien on my home.I've never been threaten.I went to see where their office was and all they have is a Po Box. They want my credit card and at this point I feel very uncomfortable to do anything with this company. I received this referral on ****. So this company never did anything for me yet ordering to pay them.Business Response

As a business I have a right to charge a cancellation fee because if a client doesn't cancel, that is a spot that could have been filled by another client. It costs businesses revenue if jobs are not performed. *********************** was sent an email stating the facts of the cancelation fee as all clients are sent the same email, it was sent 21 days prior to her appointment. If *********************** did not read the email, that is on her and her responsibility. Also, *********************** did not call the company until 2 days after the appointment date and when I answered the phone *********************** started screaming and cursing and I didn't have a chance to say anything before *********************** hung up. If *********************** would have talked to me calmly and stated the reason, I probably would have waived the fee. After *********************** hung up the phone, *********************** proceeded to slander my company name and my personal name on a public site, not one post but two, then ****************** daughter created one as well. When *********************** posted she first said she had a family emergency, then *********************** stated she had a medical emergency, then finally **********************;stated she broke her foot. Which one was it? That wasn't good enough **********************;went to **** which is where I advertise and gave me a 1-star review. After speaking with **** and stating the same to them as I am stating to you, they deleted the review **********************;left and closed the case. I have spoken with my attorney and there will be a slander and defamation of character lawsuit brought against **********************;and her daughter as I have all of the documentation to show the above mentioned. Also, the public site shut down the post due to harassment and fraud as they spoke with me and after discussing the details they also realized ******************' complaint was unfounded. I have voice recordings of physical threats that were made against me and an arrest warrant has been issued for **********************;and her daughter due to the threats that were made. Also, why were so many attachments submitted by ***********************, there was only one document. **********************;is asking for a refund of $ ***** but not sure why as **********************;hasn't paid anything. FYI, because the way **********************;promoted my business, many people on the site **********************;posted on reached out to me and I booked 14 jobs that day. Due to the fact that those jobs easily cover what **********************;cost my company, I waived the fee.
