When I signed up for this insurance when my COBRA ended, I was not told this was a faith based company, and had I been told, I would have NOT signed up for it. I know the conversation was recorded, so that should be easy to confirm. I also asked if this included RX and I was told it did. I never got any ** cards or instructions on how to process prescriptions. I have asked multiple times, and nothing. They have called me a few times, but due to my work, it is very difficult to be on the phone during the day. ALL I have asked is they send me the ** card with that info and to date, I don't have it. They say to go to their portal, but no info is there either that helps. It has been seven months and I have had to pay all of my RX and covid vaccination booster ($200) out of pocket because they will not provide this information. I need help.Business Response

The complainant stated that she signed up for this insurance. Universal Health Fellowship (***) is a not-for-profit healthcare sharing ministry. *** is not an insurance company and neither sells nor offers insurance. Its programs are all health cost sharing programs, which all representatives that offer *** programs explicitly state at the onset of their discussions with the prospective member. The e-documents that the complainant reviewed and signed also state that ***s health cost sharing programs are not insurance, and that the signee also acknowledges its Statement of Shared Faith and Principles.
The complainant had received the details of her access to ************************ that she added to her *** sharing program back in April. This same email has been reforwarded to her because of the concern she has stated here. The *** Member Support team wouldve been happy to discuss her program and answer any question via phone weekdays from 8:30am-8:00pm ET (5:30am-5:00pm PT). As *** is a HIPAA compliant organization,it cannot discuss health-related issues with members via email. HIPAA compliance, however, can be established and maintained over the phone, a point made to the complainant in the email messages shared.
*** hopes that the complainant will have a few spare minutes to speak on the phone with the Member Support team to answer her questions and address any concerns. The team will also attempt to call her again.

It always is a bad sign when a company responds saying what they are and what they aren't. To a customer, they are ********************** insurance, and frankly that is what they are presented as when you call to get new health insurance. And, I did not add a RX option in April, my plan began in April and I was told that I had a prescription benefit. The issue is that the information for that is not on my Universal Health dashboard, and I requested information on either getting my RX card or how to go online and get it myself. NEITHER of these things violates HIPPA, but they were not cooperative, instead they kept telling me to call them. This information should have been provided when I got my other health ID cards. I believe they hold it hostage so they do not have to pay. Because of the work I do, it is very hard to call during the day when I am working and they do not have any late hours to call. Also, I had to update my credit card, and there is. not a way to do that on their site, despite that millions of other businesses allow you to do this. Now, because they held this information hostage, and I had no access to my ********** info, I paid out of pocket and am now told that I can't be reimbursed. I believe this is by design so they don't have to pay out benefits. I am 59 years old and have had health insurance since I was 19 and I was always provided with ALL of my ID cards up front. They shouldn't be allowed to s**** over the people paying to have these benefits. So now, I want to be reimbursed for the last 6 months of prescriptions that I paid out of pocket for because they failed to provide accurate benefit information to me in April.Business Response

This complainant is simply being untruthful. She was fully aware that she joined a health care sharing ministry program and was not purchasing health insurance, and in her signed application for membership she specifically stated, I understand I am not buying insurance coverage.
Even though the complainant was provided with directions to access ************************ from the onset of her sharing program, UHF has offered to reimburse the expenses she has paid out of pocket for all medications she purchased while she was a member that were included on the drug formulary of ************************ included in her *** sharing program. UHF has reached out both by phone and email to the complainant with this offer.Initial Complaint

March 13,2023 I paid ****** to Universal Health Fellowship, Inc.(UHF) It is a "health insurance" scam as others have came to find out and have posted complaints to the BBB. A health insurance "broker" got my info as I was shopping for individual health coverage for myself. She recommended UHF.UHF requires a 90 day waiting period to see a provider. When it was time to try to select a provider the website portal refused to bring up the link to see who is available. I tried many different computers and devices and I started to realize this could be a scam. I called their customer service beginning 5/20/2023 (when I was eligible to see a provider) and when I finally got someone on and I explained the website portal doesn't show any providers they said that was weird and offered to email a link. That email never came. I have called again on 5/28/2023 and I was put on hold for hours. I called again 6/2/2023 and when I finally got someone on and again asked for a provider list he told me to hold and then I got disconnected,. I called again today 6/26/2023 and this time I just wanted to cancel the whole thing as its obviously a scam. I got disconnected again. So now I have this "insurance" company with recurring credit card payments and I can't even cancel and I certainly can't see a doctor. This company has brochures and customer service people but it is all one big lie. There are no actual providers that are enrolled with them. I have made 5 attempts to cancel today (documents included) and they just hang up on me or they drop the chat thru their website portal. I have made payments of ****** on March 13th, April 13, June 13th, and July 13th. That's their scam they make you wait 90 days and after 4 months people finally realize its all a scam but they have $2500 of our money before we can do anything about it. I have included of a screenshot of the chat thread where I am attempting to cancel and I think it speaks for itself. It ends with no response.Business Response

This complainant is making false claims regarding Universal Health Fellowship (UHF). This is clearly a case of buyers remorse and he is simply being untruthful.
He did not call UHF on the multiple occasions he claims and was never put on hold for hours. The telecommunications platform used by UHF tracks every call made to any of our lines, records every conversation with any of our representatives, and tracks the duration every time a caller is put on hold. A search of our telephone service company call logs shows that the only call the complainant ever made to UHF was a single call to cancel his membership at 12:16pm on June 26, 2023. He was never put on hold at all, and our software records show that no caller has been left on hold for more than a few minutes at any point over the past six months. The third-party agency that enrolled the complainant as a UHF member also has no record of the claimed phone interactions.
The complainant falsely states that the provider search tool would not work, and then he contradicts himself by falsely claiming that the very same search tool doesnt show any providers and no actual providers are enrolled. The Find a Provider tool belongs to and is controlled and maintained by the largest PPO network in the U.S. It has been available and fully functional throughout the period of the complainants UHF membership. More significantly,a search for general practitioners, family doctors and internists shows 204 in-network doctors within a 1 mile radius of the complainants home! With over ******* in-network providers in the Multiplan/PHCS Ancillary Providers Network available to UHF members, in-network doctors can be found virtually anywhere in the country.
The complainant incorrectly refers to insurance multiple times. UHF is not an insurance company and does not offer insurance. This is made abundantly clear in all UHF marketing materials and member communications, and the complainant was aware of this and specifically confirmed that in both his written and recorded enrollment verification. UHF is a health cost sharing ministry and its Universal HealthShare Programs allow members to share their eligible medical expenses with each other.
Based on his misrepresentations and fabrications, the complainant received a chargeback from his credit card company for all amounts paid by him.UHF takes extreme exception to the complainant's defamatory statements.

This company is misleading people into thinking we have health insurance by phone and it is only a discount plan not health coverage as stated to ** on phone. Both Myself and my wife listened to coverage by phone, and not the same. Thanks, *************************************Business Response

Universal HealthShare programs from Universal Health Fellowship are health cost sharing programs, and are neither insurance nor discount plans. No UHF representative said or implied to the complainant that UHF programs were insurance, and the complainant specifically confirmed in his signed enrollment application that he had been informed and understood that Universal HealthShare is a healthcare sharing program, not insurance. Nonetheless, based on the complainants apparent misunderstanding, Universal Health Fellowship has contacted the complainant and has offered a refund.Initial Complaint

I was told by a sales member from Universal Health Share that my medications (Insulin) would be covered under the said policy that I was sold. Come to find out, I was never signed up for a prescription insurance coverage at all and on top of that I was unaware that they dont cover pre-existing medical conditions at all. I talked to numerous customer service representatives, who assisted me with canceling my policy but were unwilling to refund my two months of paying for this policy. Once of which being 3 days prior to this incident. Not only was I lied to about the coverages that I was expecting to get from my policy but I was also denied compensation for their sales team misleading and scamming me to think that I would be covered KNOWING they did not cover insulin costs at all. The phone calls are all prerecorded so they are able to go back to their sales representative falsely coercing me into what I thought was a good fit for my health. Being a Type 1 diabetic, I would never knowingly get this coverage if it did not cover my insulin. And now Im out insurance, paying out of pocket for very expensive insulin until I can find another health provider to insure me. I never once used the insurance for not one incident and expect to be at least refunded for the money I have spent for this insurance.Business Response

UHF thanks the member for detailing his experience. It should be clarified, however, that the complainant did not speak to any sales representatives from Universal Health Share. The member enrolled through a third-party representative from ******************** that sells insurance policies from various insurance companies in addition to UHF sharing programs.
UHF reached out to management from that agency to discuss this situation. While the member is correct in stating that prescriptions are not sharable through UHF, we were informed that the representative from ******************** also enrolled the member in a prescription program that has no affiliation with UHF. The member should follow up with the agency directly for assistance related to that, as we have no further insight about it.
Also, while the third-party agency offers refunds only during the first 30 days of membership, they have agreed to work with UHF in this case. UHF has retroactively cancelled the members account to terminate as of 3/31/23 and the member will see a credit on their credit card statement for the second month of service.

There are many dates when United Health Fellowship failed to pay expenses that they should have reasonably paid. They charged me almost $400 a month for absolutely no coverage whatsoever. I looked up in-network facilities and that's where I sent our daughter, whom this "policy" covers. Suddenly the facility is not in-network. We've given them thousands of dollars and they have given ** nothing. I spoke with *******************************, who sold me this worthless healthshare nonsense, about what United Health Fellowship is going to do about this situation. That's been weeks ago and I've heard nothing, and I doubt I will. Looking at all the other disgruntled consumers, I think this could be a class-action lawsuit. The very least I am going to do is speak with my representatives in **************** If we have to pay these bills, we should be refunded in full for this worthless, whatever it is. SCAM - DON'T DO IT!Business Response

Universal Health Fellowship is a health care cost sharing ministry; a faith-based community of members who share in each others medical expenses. The Universal HealthShare Guidelines and Welcome Booklet (sent to all new members at the beginning of their membership) both clearly state that only in-network physician needs are eligible for sharing. The member submitted 8 needs requests, 5 of which were for the same out-of-network facility.
The member could have contacted UHF for assistance in finding an in-network provider, but did not. If the member did a simple search using UHFs find provider tool, she would have seen two in-network urgent care centers in the same zip code as the center she used, as well as 64 results for family practice, 22 for pediatrics, and 41 for Internal Medicine all in-network.
Three of the medical expenses that the member incurred and submitted, however, were in-network, and were shared. One of these successfully shared in-network expenses was for $3798.
The member asked to have her membership canceled anyway on Nov. 18. As over half of the month had passed, no refund of the monthly contribution was offered. The remaining term of her sharing programs membership expired on Nov. 30.
