Paid Above All Handyman (****) $218.67 to re-caulk my shower. The work was completed 8/5/24. I paid 8/6. I noticed cracking and complete disrepair a few days later. Sent pictures to **** (attached below) on 8/13. He promised to come back and repair, but has not shown up on 3 separate occasions now.Business Response

I would like to formally address the complaint filed by *********************************, as it not only misrepresents the facts but also involves an illegal extortion attempt, which the BBB has been made aware of. Below, I will provide an accurate account of events, detail the criminal actions committed by ********************, and address the failure of the BBB to take appropriate action despite clear evidence of wrongdoing.
1. Misrepresentation in Complaint
************************ complaint claims that he noticed "cracking and complete disrepair" in the caulking "a few days later" after the job was performed. This is a blatant misrepresentation of the facts. On the night of August 5th, 2024, the date the work was performed, ******************** was provided with a detailed invoice that clearly stated the following:
"2.5 hours of work on removing caulk and cleaning, then applied one coat of caulk. Will need to apply another coat of caulk; this will be at no charge to the homeowner."
This documentation, which ******************** received immediately after the service was completed, makes it abundantly clear that the job was not fully completed, as another coat of caulking was scheduled. Despite this knowledge, he framed his complaint as though we had delivered subpar work and never intended to follow through on our promise to return.
2. Extortion and Criminal Behavior
It is critical to point out that Mr. ********* complaint is directly connected to an extortion attempt that began on September 3rd, 2024. On that date, ******************** initiated a series of threatening text messages in which he explicitly stated that he had posted 1-star reviews on various platforms, including ****** and the BBB, and would only remove them if we provided him with a full refund. His texts included the following:
Sept 3rd, 7:31 PM - ******************** texted:
In the process of writing a scathing review on Yelp and filing an official complaint with the BBB. Need to hear back from you with your plan or I'm posting within the hour.
Sept 3rd, 7:48 PM - He continued:
Bro, just Venmo my money back. Ill take down these posts as soon as you do.
Sept 3rd, 8:40 PM - Further confirmation:
Just added complaints to Yelp, Nextdoor, and an official complaint to the Better Business Bureau. Im looking for more. Wont stop until I hear back from you.
These messages clearly demonstrate that ******************** filed his BBB complaint as part of an unlawful extortion scheme, using it as leverage to force us into providing a refund. Extortion is a felony offense under Georgia law, and we have secured legal counsel to address this matter accordingly.
In good faith, we complied with his demands and issued a full refund. Despite this, ******************** has failed to remove his defamatory reviews and continues to use his false complaint to harm our business reputation. We provided the BBB with the necessary documentation, including screenshots of these extortionate texts, yet this complaint remains active.
3. Slander and Defamation
************************ complaint is not only inaccurate but constitutes defamation. He deliberately omits key facts, such as the unfinished status of the project (which he acknowledged in the invoice), and instead falsely portrays our company as having performed inadequate work and failed to follow through on promises. The reality is that we were fully prepared to complete the job as indicated, but Mr. ********* extortionate behavior derailed the process.
His actions have caused material harm to our business, and his misrepresentation of the facts in this formal complaint constitutes libel. The false statements and intentional misrepresentation of our work have caused unnecessary damage to our reputation.
4. Failure of the BBB to Take Action
I find it deeply troubling that despite having provided the BBB with direct evidence of Mr. ********* illegal extortion attempt, this complaint has not been dismissed. By continuing to allow this complaint to remain active, the BBB is enabling Mr. ********* criminal actions and allowing him to damage our business through false claims and extortion.
We respectfully request that the BBB review the evidence we have submitted, which clearly shows that this complaint was filed in bad faith as part of a criminal extortion scheme. The texts provided should make it clear that Mr. ********* actions are unlawful and do not reflect the legitimate interests of a consumer. We urge the BBB to remove this complaint and prevent any further harm to our company caused by these false and slanderous claims.
5. Conclusion
Above All Handyman stands by the quality of our work and our commitment to customer satisfaction. We were more than willing to complete the job as promised and work in good faith with ********************. However, the situation took a criminal turn when he attempted to extort us for money by holding our reputation ****** through false reviews and complaints.
We trust that the BBB will take appropriate action to rectify this situation, including the removal of this complaint and any associated defamatory content. We are prepared to take all necessary legal actions to protect our business and reputation.

The Handyman has returned my money and I have updated my online reviews to reflect them doing so. I consider this case closed, however will respond to the businesses own false and misleading claims if BBB deems it necessary. In essence, though the Handyman states it was their intention the entire time to finish the job, there were huge gaps in communication that gave me no reason to believe they would ever return, especially after numerous missed appts. I hired this company to do handy man work around the house. I was told it would be completed between Wednesday-Saturday. The first day they arrived their equipment was broken and they spent hours trying to trouble shoot before having to go buy new equipment. They charged me for this although no one was actually working. **** and ***** bring their child every day they work and its up to you to look after and feed child, they also leave their child while making trips to *********** Every day they took numerous trips to get supplies all of which they charged me for. Prior to beginning work I walked my house and pointed out everything that needed to be done. Things that were not on the list and were done anyways, I was charged for. When the painters had to redo work because it was done poorly I was charged again for that. **** was gone so much and the workers did not know what to do and refused to listen to me. When I discussed the bill at the end I was threatened with a lien if I didnt pay although the job was incomplete. They ruined the little grass I did have and washed their paint on the other part. They leave a mess, dont clean and leave all their trash behind. This company is highly unprofessional and does not complete work. Please beware.Business Response
