We just bought a brand new home to ******* Community, and the house has mold! We cannot live there due to mold issues.Business Response

We are in the process of reviewing the information provided by the homeowner and conducting an inspection of the home to determine what issues, if any, exist. We have been in close communication with the homeowner during this process in order to better understand the complaint and schedule the necessary inspections. I am rejecting this response because:We told them since day one that we found mold and they denied it. They proceeded with killz which was not the recommendation. Right now, there is mold in the attic, and it is worst! We are no longer at the house, we are renting and doing better with health conditions. Yes, Chafin and The David family are negotiating. Today, Friday the 20th Chafin is going to preform a mold test though I have done it with 3 mold companies they keep denying the mold in the attic. Thank you!

We purchased our home in September 2023, and from the beginning, it was clear there were numerous issues. The tray ceilings had visible cracks, the shoe molding was damaged, and the overall craftsmanship was subpar. The bathroom grout was inconsistent, thick, and poorly finished, with grout extending to the walls in an unacceptable manner. While Chafin attempted to address some of these problems, the results were inconsistentsome issues improved, while others worsened.On their advice, we waited to report all concerns under the one-year warranty to allow for potential settling of the house, with the understanding that this would prevent further cracking or damage. We submitted our full list of issues in September 2024. However, the builder has not completed the necessary warranty repairs and is now claiming that some of the reported issues are not covered.This experience has been incredibly stressful, as the quality of the home does not reflect its price. The materials and construction are clearly of low quality. For instance, despite efforts to fix the cracks in the tray ceilings, they reappeared, and we have been told no further repairs will be made. I have documented evidence, including photographs, to support my claims. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this builder to anyone, as they have demonstrated a lack of accountability and unwillingness to work with us to resolve these issues.Business Response

Chafin takes pride in building beautiful high-quality homes for our customers. Prior to each closing, the buyer and our builder review the home together to identify any items that need repair or attention. These items are then addressed, and the owner then has a second opportunity to review and approve the repairs/corrections. Once satisfied, the buyer signs the final acceptance and proceeds to closing.
Procedure was followed and the buyer signed and approved the final acceptance prior to closing. In addition, and upon receiving notification of the issues in this complaint, our warranty staff met with the buyer and resolved all outstanding issues and concerns. The customer has acknowledged and agreed in writing that all issues outlined in this complaint have been resolved and the file has been closed.

We discovered discoloration on the molding near the master shower. We reported it under the warranty and have been in communication with Chafin. A plumber was sent out and we were charged the service but nothing could be done since the issue is in the walls. We understand a GC needs to come and rip out the shower - this is a construction defect as other homeowners have reported similar issues due to the type of shower/tub surround used. There is black mold developing under the sections and I recently have been undergoing tests for allergies, hives and other systems. I was recently given a medication that treats a mold allergy. We need shower repaired along with mold remediation that will be needed once that shower walls are removed.Business Response

Dealing with these builders has been nothing but a nightmare. We closed on our home on Sept 16, 2022. Today is March 12, 2024 and the majority of the 1 year warranty corrections have been finished. This company is filled with a bunch of people who can commit to their word and cant give you quality service. ******* Flooring screwed up our floors during our one year repair. We waited over 6 months to get our floors done and matched. We were never able to get a match . They told me the only thing to do was to ripped apart my second floor hallway and used that flooring to move it down to the first floor, since we couldnt *********** to match. They finally brought in all the floor and still brought two different colors of flooring. We only had 4 boxes to work with on the downstairs. We literally used every single plank and had to save whatever floor that came up in case of repairs . Luckily, the second floor didnt really get touched except a couple planks. I spent an entire day cleaning up after these people. I told the builders not to come in with their dirty shoes and there was still one by the name of ******* who did not care what I told him. Mind you, this is a man has been to my house three separate times. ******************* left nails, shavings of LVP all over the dining room. As well as T ******* and staples. My house was left disgusting. The trimming and painters came the following Monday and they didnt even do a decent job. You can still see the nails and the cuttings of the trims through the paint and whatever molding they used. I was promised that the house was going to be clean the following day by some people. Today is that day, and they never came. Absolutely worst customer service Ive ever dealt with. Absolutely unacceptable. Will never buy home through Chafin again. Will certainly tell others of my experience.Business Response

I am writing in response to the attached Better Business Bureau inquiry. It appears that the original letter was addressed to the wrong company and did not make it to us until recently. With that said, we are now in receipt of the complaint and are working to resolve any outstanding issues.
Our records show that a final flooring repair was completed on 3/12/24 which is the same day that the original BBB complaint was filed. It is unclear to us whether the complaint was made prior to the work being completed or after the work was complete and approved by the homeowner.
Our warranty manager has made several attempts to contact the homeowner by phone at the number on file and has been unsuccessful. Subsequently, Chafin mailed a letter to the owner on 2/24/25 requesting that the owner contact us in order to address any outstanding issues. If a response is not received within 30 days the file will be closed.
