On Feb 24, 2022 I paid $3527 out of an invoice for $4257 for work to be performed including adding a sump pump and plumbing for a basement bathroom in ********* **. The pump was listed at $600, the pit for $350, and concrete work for $675. In April, I paid the remaining amount after all work was completed. In July, the sump pump failed and the basement was flooded with sewage. We had to pull up all the *** flooring. They came and said that the pump failed because it was clogged with toilet paper but they still installed a new one. They refused to pay to replace the flooring but did pay for half of the cost to paint and seal the concrete floor. Another 4 months went by and the pump failed again and flooded again. They refused to come to look at the pump and kept saying it was our fault because it was probably toilet paper again. There is only one person living in the basement and he isnt home very often. We knew this wasnt likely the issue. I did research and predicted that the error was that they installed the wrong pump and told the owner that I would pay any difference in material cost for him to install the right one. After 1.5 weeks of calling and trying to get them to come, we finally called another plumber. Turns out I was right and the pump they had installed both times was a groundwater pump, not a sewage pump. There are only small holes for water and so of course it got clogged and overflowed twice. The owner has refused to respond or take responsibility for this egregious error. I had to pay $900 for a new sewage pump to be installed. I dont have my flooring and have had to pay labor to repaint the floor and redo the trim. I am looking for reimbursement of the $900 at the very least if not also for the lost flooring.
