We were without any phone service from October 14 until December 15 but have received a bill for that time in the amount of $144.00. The phone service has been spotty since then. The phone works sometime, but not all the time. I do not feel as if I owe for the months, I did not have any phone services. I have tried to reach Cathect Communications Inc. to discuss this issue but can't get anyone to answer the phone. My desired resolution to this issue is my account should be credited for the full $144.00 the company is showing I owe them. I'm requesting a new bill be mailed to me showing the credit amount as the phone may or not be working.Initial Complaint

My name is *** I am contacting you on the behalf of my 81 yr old mother who has dementia. My mother was contacted by this business and was heavily persuaded/conned into this pre-paid cathect communications offer. She said they kept calling her and demanding her to accept this offer because it would make her phone bill cheaper. My mother has BRIGHTSPEED phone service, she has no internet, no cell phone. My mother was conned by this company. When I called to find out what was going on they did not want to listen to me or my complaint and said she would have to pay a $45 cancellation fee. My father, *** ***** ****** and stepmother, ***** ******, have their phone service with Cathect Communications. They have not had any phone service since 10/16/2024. They have paid their bill of $48. I called the company on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, but was unable to reach anyone at this company via phone, so I sent an email to their helpdesk. I tried again on Thursday, October 24, but was still unable to reach anyone. I sent another email, on which I added myself, but we have yet to get a response from this company. My parents are 90 and 82 years old. My father is not in the best of health and the can not afford to be without their landline. This is the company **** gave them when they took away their landline phones. They do not have internet, so they need a landline phone that does not require internet. I need someone from this company to correct this situation ****. This is the second time this year that they have been without phone service.Initial Complaint

On May the third saw advertisement on the internet for internet services and with the service you would get a free iPad and and the cost was $20 a month never got anything from the company so in August I finally got the *** card still was waiting on the iPad never received it called the company told them just a refund my money I would send the *** card back if they needed it because it would not fit in anything I had she told me that wasn't necessary and that my money would be refunded it might take up to 3 to 4 days I waited it never was refunded I called several times they just kept giving me the runaround and the last time I called they just hang up on me and still taking money out of my account they have taken $108.75 out of my checking account I did call them back again and all I get is the phone puts me on hold and says you will your call will be answered next and never does answer and then finally says leave a message and then it says voicemail is full and hangs upInitial Complaint

Good morning BBB,
Thank you very much for your help with this! I have been contacted by a representative from Cathect, as a result of your assistance & they instructed that I send back the equipment that was provided to connect for calls. I have done so & have attached the confirmation that the package was picked up as reference. I am very glad for the progress that has finally been made with getting the account deactivated, but I am hesitant to indicate whether the issue is resolved until I am able to confirm that I do not continue to receive bills from them each month, as I have been up to this point, even though the service was never fully functioning. I will follow up after I have confirmed that they are not continuing to bill me at the next statement period, to indicate if the issue is fully resolved.

To anyone looking for a non-internet phone service, DO NOT USE this company. They have horrible customer service. This complaint is being filed on behalf of my step-mother and father. The were given this company when **** stopped supporting land lines. My step-mother, ***********************, called me on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 because their land line was not working. I called Cathect customer service and was told we were number two in line for a representative to speaker with us. When we were number one in line, I was hung up on. I then decided to do a live chat. After explaining the problem using live chat, I was asked for a number that their technician to call me back. I gave them my cellphone number. That was six days ago and I still have not received a phone call. I was able to get the phones working after doing some research online. This is a horrible company. Their customer service is the worst I have ever encounter. **** needs to find a better company for their senior customers who don't have internet to get phone service through. My parents were without service for a whole week and my father is 89 years old with health issues. They can't be without phone service.Business Response

I've had Cathect Communication for three years and the services has been horrible. I've tried to work with them with phone calls dropping, can't make calls calling out, not receiving calls. July 12,2023 I called to have my land line phone number released to Spectrum. I called to get a pin number and the number that is given I'm told by Spectrum that it was denied on several occasions. I've been calling them the last three weeks and they still can't switch my services over. My bills is paid on time for three years and has never been late with a zero balance. My account number is ************ and pin number given is ****** which the same pin was given numerous occasions. I just need help getting my phone number released so I can switch provider. Hi, I switch from **** to this company they had no service when I switched to them so they made me buy a box to make the service work. The box never worked. *** had no phone out of the last two years maybe six months I called about 15 times with the promised they would send somebody out to fix it never had anybody fix it at the time I was seriously ill in the hospital with ******. It was very hard for me to get a hold of them. They never return calls they never sent a repair man out now that I have switched phones COMPANIES because Ive had no service and I kept paying the bill every month in full. Cathect communications has been receiving payments from the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) for over a year using my personal information for either phone or internet service that I never had, never used this service and never even heard of this company. My phone provider is **** and has been for about 8 months. My **** service keeps getting shut off due to the fact that this other company is collecting on my behalf. I've had to pay the bill with money I do not have. I am low income and need ACP to help me keep my phone service but Cathect keeps me from receiving the benefits i officially qualify for with ****. I want to know how they got my information. For the past six months I have been billed for a service I do not have and cannot use b/c the equipment the company sent does not work. I am being charged for a service I am not using. I have called the company several times, I have called and talked to a person every month for the past seven months. I have gone through troubleshooting over the phone with the company and the wireless service will not work in the area I live in. The service has never worked. Each time I speak to a customer service rep they have agreed to send me a return label for equipment that was sent to my house. I have not received a return label. All I keep receiving is an invoice.I live in a rural area. The wireless service is not working. I do not want the service. I want to return the equipment. I do not want this bill to hit my credit report. I'd like for BBB to step in and resolve this issue before they try to report this to the credit bureaus. The last bill I have received is for $385.00 ***************** Invoice#***********.
