Today I was charged $600 for just under one hour of work, and there were no parts were included in that cost. When I called to ask if they would break down the price for me, they said, "We charge a flat fee and have overhead." They are easily twice the cost of other large companies.Empire Heating And Air Conditioning, Inc.

We work very hard to deliver a high quality of service provided by great tradespeople. We charge what is required to provide our employees solid year round employment with good benefits and post a modest profit at the end of the year. Your call did not require chargeable parts but it did require warranty parts from a manufacturer. These parts have to be acquired under a warranty process with proper paperwork, old parts have to be returned to the manufacturer with completed paperwork. All of this time along with the 1.5 hours our technician spent onsite installing the parts and verifying operation are included in the invoicing. We are in fact a flat rate company and subscribe to a national program to allow appropriate hours to tasks much like the automotive industry. We do this to be able to provide up front pricing over time and materials. Not all service technicians have a lifetime of experience like the technician that did this work for you. Flat rate pricing insures that you only pay the fair market for the services performed and that you are not overcharged for the extra time it might take a less experience person to complete the work.
