  Capital Roofing is charging me $1500 for a ten minute job consisting of replacing part of two shingles and adding a small piece of flashing on the peak of the roof. I dont think any reputable company would have done this.After a rainfall of 2 inches, leaks had developed where none had ever happened on an 11 year old roof. It caused leaks in a bathroom ceiling and cracks. Two men arrived at 7 am with no advance notice, left the engine running, and went on the roof, leaving after ten minutes. No extensive work was done, this was minimal and did not consider a problem misdiagnosis. The invoice arrived the next day. 3 working days later an email threatened that a non-refundable late fee would be added if not paid. I have sent a check for $250, which works out to more than $1000 an hour. A reasonable payment under the circumstances.I questioned the estimators diagnosis because of a complicated roof situation. A previous owners renovation raised the roof over that area, but part of the old roof remained below. There was a gap of old roof under the area near the peak of the new roof, so any problem near the peak would not have traveled more than 12 feet to end up at the far end of the bathroom ceiling. Yet the estimator decided about an inch of a shingle corner was misplaced at the peak and no flashing was there. This was an easy fix, but I doubted it because the rain had left a wet place about 3 feet wide and 8 feet long all the way down the old roof to where the bathroom ceiling was. The estimator had been shown this. So, given an estimators choice of $700 for a minimal fix of caulking around a few shingles, and $1500 for more extensive work, I choose the more expensive, expecting more time and effort looking for the problem cause. That was not done and the bill didn't reflect the time and materials actually used.Because the leaking came after heavy rainfall, not typical, I won't know for some time whether leaking will continue.
