Good afternoon my name is ***** I am filing a complaint with BBB because I have entered two of my children into the The Academy of Lovejoy. My children use a CAPS scholarship to cover charges. This established is charging me money that has to be CASH ONLY to take trips and the prices are differential and had to be paid by Monday. I was informed that I can't pay then my children have to stay home. Why should my children stay home if they are receiving full payment for daycare. They will give receipts for trips paid and I have informed them that I can't pay for all these trips and I was told my kids nust stay home. The weekend before the holiday of July I got a call saying one of kids had pink eye I work on the same street as this establishment and I asked that after getting my daughter treated and if she doesn't have pink may she return with a doctor's note and I was told no. I work and I can't pay for extra trips and my bills are risinh because I may have to take off from work or make other arrangements because I can't afford these trips but care is already paid through CAPS PLEASE HELP. I HAVE TEXT MESSAGES TO SHOW PROOF OF THESE THINGS.IM JUST TRYING TO WORK AND GIVE NY CHILDREN A BETTER LIFE.

In reviewing the complaint filed by ************, there were 2 concerns that were raised.

    1) The cost of field trips and the parents inability to pay for the scheduled activities.

    2) ************** child being sent home for displaying signs of illness.

During our summer camp program, we attend multiple (typically 3) field trips per week which are engaging, interactive and educational.  We children are enrolled in the program we discussed field trips and the parents contribution to the field trips.
************ is a CAPs recipient and does not have an out of pocket expense associated with the childcare service that we provide.  However, CAPs does not cover any fees other than tuition.  The field trips that are planned usually total ($15-$20 per week).
We do encourage participation on all field trips but we completely understand that situations may arise that a child may not be able to attend.  In these instances, we encourage the parents to keep the children home on these days because the entire class (including teachers) are out of the center attending the field trip and this would lead to the said children being unattended.
This was discussed with ************ and she expressed her understanding.

The additional complaint stems from ************** daughter displaying signs of illness on 6/30/23.  The child showed multiple signs of pink eye and we contacted ************ and advised that she would need to be picked up and we recommend that she saw her physician before she returned to prevent the spread of illness to anyone else in the facility.
Upon arrival, ************ asked if she could bring the child back and we explained that she could not because she was clearly not well.

Our wellness policy states that, a child must be kept home if the display any signs of illness, including but not limited to~fever, diarrhea, significant cough, discolored mucus, pink eye etc
