Time has a peculiar way of bringing things to the forefront. Its heartbreaking to think a person we trust to do a job correctly, failed at the preliminary stage and in the end I had to front the repair cost. After some time, I noticed tiles in the bathroom cracking, loose and shifting. Called a repairman and he found the issue was the initial installation; stating the toilet was too low and secured poorly also the tile was placed on top of the wood. He added tiling on wood isnt recommended and the initial installers shouldve used a backer board. When I started noticing the toilet leaking water out the side, the repair technician stated it was leaking long before underneath. Tried to go through insurance to finance the repairs and it was a game of run around. The insurance company gave this company a check over $100,000 to do a job and here were having to repair and replace something that wasnt installed properly. Although satisfactory to the eye after the rebuild, the most crucial element, proper installation was disregarded. Proper installation of the subfloor and correct mounting of the toilet wouldve saved us from an early repair. Understandably things are man-made and dont last a lifetime. My bathroom isnt a high traffic area and every inch of the house is treated with care. I say that to say, with proper maintenance the lifespan is extended, those tiles shouldve last more than 10 years. The repairman was able to punch and claw the wood underneath the tile soaked with water. Utterly devastating, the tiles were installed in an area prone to damage with a potential for leaks. Knowingly, that at any moment the toilet couldve caved in, sinking into the foundation of the house. For what its worth, shortcuts were taken in order to pocket more cash from insurance. We trusted that installation was proper, and with this new issue makes us challenge the entire rebuild. What future issues do we face because of the initial construction?
