    I am one of the many hurricane ****** victims in **********************, I had been without cellular service, electricity and water for weeks before attempting to cancel my reservation at The Retreat at Hiawassee River Resort. I had made the reservation on September 23rd to attend a Miami Police *** retirees' reunion. I was obviously unaware of the hurricane striking and damaging my home and vehicles on September 25th. I was never advised by the resort of the 30 days cancellation requirement. When I telephone the Resort to cancel due to the impossibility of my traveling, they informed me of their cancellation policy and would not refund the charge to my AMEX Card. I feel that given the unprecedented severity of hurricane ****** and my inability to leave my home that I should have been allowed to cancel my reservation. Additionally, the following facts should be taken into consideration: (1) As of this writing The Resort does not declare what their cancellation policies are on their webpage under Terms and Conditions a copy of which I have downloaded and printed and can make available if you desire. It should also be noted that I made the reservation telephonically and during the process again I was not verbally advised of any cancellation policy. (2) On September 23rd a friend and colleague informed me that he had cancelled his reservations at the Resort due to a medical emergency involving his wife. It is at this time that I telephonically contacted the resort, reserved and paid in full for the Cabin which he had vacated, as I had every intention of attending. Additionally, it should be noted that my friend was allowed to cancel within their 30 days exclusion window yet when my area was ravaged by hurricane ******, I was denied cancellation and refund I have to wonder if their cancellation policy is SELECTIVE, or does it apply equally to everyone. It appears that the cancellation policy is design to forfeit deposits as is not depicted anywhere on their webpage
