My ********** paid $2500 to James to be my lawyer for a case I had. Once we paid him he told me and mom that I had a public defender that he could not help since I had a public defender. Since then he never returned the money so I asked for help with a custody case. He wanted more money I asked what about the $2500 he done received, then I stopped receiving emails from him. *** also heard of him doing this to two other people after sharing my experience.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/09/2023

****************** hired me in April 2022

He had 2 felony chrages and also needed a seperate Bond Hearing to get him out of jail.

I quoted him a retainer of $2500 to start immediately on the Bond issue, and begin work on the actual charges by filing Discovery Motions, reviewing the evidence, and start trying to negotiate a plea deal, which ****************** stated as his deired result. We agreed that the total amount due would depend on the hours spent.

I filed a Bond Petition on May 2, 2022 and was sucessful in getting him released on Bond.

I reviewed the evidence and had several meetings with the District Attorney. I negotiated a written Plea Offer in June 2022. I discussed the offer with ****************** and he stated that he wished to accept the plea. At this point, scheduling the plea was up to the court.

I informed ****************** to let me know as soon as he received a court date in the mail.

It appears that ******************, at some point after that, received a cort date, but did not inform me. It appears that he went to court on his own and requested a Public Defender. In my opinion, he did this to avoid any further legal fees since his retainer was not enough to cover my total hours.

He then used the Public Defender to help him enter the plea that I negotiated.

My next communication was his demanding a complete refund
