On ******** ***, 2022 I came to the leasing office of Thomaston Crossing Apartments to pay my final payment owed per my notice of moving out on ******, 2022. The cashiers check that I brought with with me was about $3100 which I attempted to give to the property manager (Maria) and the leasing office agent. I was advised by (Maria) that the amount I brought exceeded what was owed to the property (All rent for November, leasing termination fee which was equal to another month's rent, and prorated amount for being in the apartment up until ******** **** 2022 in which I would return keys). However, Maria and the leasing agent, after calling me into one of the offices and explained that I only owed $2,549 and asked if it was possible to get the cashiers check adjusted because it would take months for corporate to refund the excess. So I went to redo my cashiers check for the amount advised. I came back to the leasing office and gave the leasing manager/agent the corrected and verified cashiers check. The property manager and staff accepted the payment ensuring me all amounts owed were paid, they made me a copy of the cashiers check and signed the copy as a receipt stating “Paid thanks” with the signature of Maria. (see attached) . On ******** *, 2022 I revisited the office to turn in keys and no one even mentioned anything about any additional amount owed. Now I’m facing collections with my credit score/rental history impacted without any proper notice from the property prior to even going to collections or the collection agency itself which is very UNFAIR and quite distasteful on behalf of property management. I’m disputing this because I have proof that I settled all debt based upon the words of the staff there and because they didn’t even call or contact me by any means prior to sending me to collections for an amount I wasn’t even aware I “allegedly” owed. I’d like this to be removed out of collections and have my credit score and rental history made whole again.
