I signed up for a planet fitness membership. It was very easy. I walked into the gym and the person at the desk told me to fill out the information on my phone. He basically told me to click through and just hit "I accept" on everything. I was not adequately notified of the cancelation policy prior to accepting this membership. They have deceptive sales techniques and tried to tell me how easy it is to sign up, but did not inform me on how to cancel my membership. A month later a medical emergency happened in the family, and we had to leave the city we were in. I called to cancel and they said that I could not cancel, and I had to be there in person. They did not specify that meant it had to be in person at that specific location. I went to the local planet fitness where I moved and they told me that it had to be at the first location which was more than 6 hours away or send a certified letter. I had since closed my bank account, so I was not charged any extra fees. I assumed this meant that I was not being charged anymore, and my membership would be canceled. I got an email when they tried to bill my card asking for a payment update and it said "Account Closed" on that email. Now, a couple months later, I have received an email saying that if I sign up again, they will forgive all balances on my account. I tried to log in to see what balances they were speaking of, but did not remember my log in information. I requested my username, and it says it sent an email but I still have not received it in any inbox or spam hours later. I do not know if there are balances on my account they are trying to charge me for, but if there are - it is deceptive to send an email saying account closed and then continue to charge money. If there aren't balances, it is deceptive to send an email saying if you sign up now we will forgive you for all your balances.
