I contacted Shermans about a noise coming from the suspension area of my car. I told him what I thought it was and what another shop thought it was. I was to bring the car in the following day where they would check it out thoroughly, and confirm. I paid them half in advance and the rest to be paid upon completion of the job. The following day, they diagnosed and confirmed the work to be done. When I came to pick up the car, the total was $400 more than quoted. The associate that I spoke with told me that they also had to replace the outer tie rods along with the inner. I told him that thats not the price he quoted. He then took 10% off and I paid the balance remaining of $1,200. After driving the car less than a quarter of a mile, I noticed the car making the same sound as before the $2,200 fix. I called Shermans and asked if they had driven the car after making the repairs. I was told that they had and had heard nothing. They instructed me to bring the car back the next day and they would check it out. I did, and the technician rode in the car with me. We drove less than 100 yards when the technician stated that the sound was the wheel bearings ( which wasnt included in the $2,200 fix). The technician said they werent told about the bearings and therefore, never checked them. However, I reminded him that they told me that they diagnosed the car before beginning the work. Finally, they sent me yet another quote for an additional $1,000 to replace the bearings. Im convinced that Shermans Auto Repair fraudulently charged me for work that I didnt need because he knew exactly what was wrong with the car before he took that ride with me. I havent heard from Shermans again since they got my full payment at the time of service. I am demanding $1,100 to be returned to me so that I can get the car fixed at a reputable shop. I havent ruled out further litigation as this shouldnt happen to anyone else.
