On 11/12/2007, I bought a new 2008 Prius from ****** Mapunapuna. I additionally purchased window tinting, done by T&T Tinting with a life time guarantee, as long as I own the vehicle, which I still do. In the past year, the tinting has bubbled up. I called T&T and asked about getting the tinting repaired/replaced. The lady I spoke with asked for the information on the door tag. I went and looked, and all that remained was a corner of the paper tag. I called her back and told her this. She said, that's ok, what is the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)? I gave that to her and she looked in their computer and said that she could not find it. I said that I didn't feel that I should be penalized/refused service due to their poor record keeping. She said the only choice was for me to pay for the service. I told her, that's not right.

      Aloha ******,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I apologize for the inconvenience. Let me explain how the manufacturers limited lifetime warranty works. First, because the warranty is provided through the manufacturer ********************************, in order to redeem the warranty T&T Tinting is required to supply a copy of the original warranty number located on the warranty card or on the sticker located on the drivers side door jam along with a sample of the defective material. Understandably, after 16 years you can no longer locate your warranty card and mentioned that the door jam decal had been torn off leaving only a small corner of the sticker. The reason why our representative requested your vin number was to do a search in our digital database to hopefully help you out and provide you with the necessary information. Unfortunately, our digital records go back only around 12 years and anything prior to that is in the form of physical documents that require possibly hours of research to locate a single warranty number.

As a good will gesture we are currently scanning our old warranty documents into digital format but note we are only required by law to keep documents for ******************************************************************************* the event like this when you can't find your warranty number after 16 years and the secondary back up door jam decal is removed we can easily pull up your warranty information. Fortunately, because you were able to provide a purchase date of the vehicle (11/12/2007) we were able to locate your warranty. Our customer service representative, ******** ****** left you a voicemail this afternoon to set up your installation appointment. I can have her follow up with you again tomorrow when we re-open at 8:00am.

      Mahalo,

      Aloha BBB,

Thank you for reaching out to us in regards to *****************'s claim (Invoice ******). Please see the attached documentation, containing a copy of the original invoice along with our check in sheet and signed waiver of liability form. Our check in procedure requires a representative of T&T Tinting to do a thorough walk through of any vehicle before it's taken into our possession. This includes inspecting both the inside and exterior of the vehicle and opening all the doors to inspect for any pre-existing damages. Our representative doing the walk through with **** made notes on the invoice of pre-existing damages including sagging headliner, damages around the entire vehicle, wear & tear to the interior of the vehicle and cracks in the door panels. Due the fact that the car is 17 years old and clearly showing signs of wear and tear Rose was required to sign a waiver of liability before we could do any work to the vehicle. On the waiver she agreed and acknowledged that her Door panels & interior parts are aged, brittle, and deteriorating. In this section it goes into detail that the process of installing window film may disrupt aged material and cause further damage (see attached T&T Waiver of Liability) form. The waiver was acknowledged, dated, and signed by **** releasing T&T from claims of damage related to the application of the window film. Finally, we also do a walkaround of the vehicle once the it's completed and ready to be released back to our guest. After doing the walk-through **** signed the invoice that clearly states "My vehicle has been received in good condition and the price, specifications, terms outlined herein are approved.

We have been in business for 41 years and have implemented mandatory policy's and procedures to help protect us from vehicles with pre-existing conditions. The waiver of liability attached was specifically developed to address pre-existing conditions and possible outcomes due to our tinting process.

      Hi Rose,

The waiver of liability is mentioned a number of times because we only issue it to cars that are older than 10 years old or showing signs of pre-existing conditions. Your vehicle is 17 years old (2007) and was showing multiple signs of aging and pre-existing conditions. Upon check in our staff noticed you had a sagging headliner, damages around the entire vehicle, wear & tear to the interior of the vehicle and cracks in the door panels. These are all warning signs that your vehicle may have experienced heavy sun exposure and aged door panels are more sensitive to our installation process. Please refer to the attached waiver and I've highlighted the section in the waiver that addresses the potential of damage caused due to pre-existing conditions during the process of installing window film. The waiver is our way of communicating to you the risk involved in the tinting process because of the age and condition of your vehicle. By signing the waiver prior to us taking possession of your vehicle your accepting and waiving responsibility from T&T Tinting for damages caused during the tinting process from aging and deteriorating parts.

Our shop manager and shop ******* were happy to help you by condition all 4 of your door panels when you brought your car back on 4/24/24 to help remedy the problem. This is the extent as to what we can do to help in this situation. Please provide me with what you suggest is a fair solution for both parties?

      Mahalo,

I am rejecting this response because:

      I understand the waiver.

If you only personally look at the damage, (i pointed them out at the time of pick-up), you will notice, it is due to the job done, (the lady said it will go away).

It doesn't mean you have a waiver, you can do a poor careless job, JUST BECAUSE I SIGNED A WAIVER.

      I expect professional business job.

Yes it is old, it is old, but you can see the interior is well cared for over time.

      Sincerely,
