On 6/18/2023 my travel trailer (TT) passenger side leaf spring broke on I-35 in **********. Central Iowa Towing and Recovery towed my trailer to their secured lot at ***********************************************************. They said their mechanic, *****, could make the necessary repairs to my trailer. I agreed to this since I am from out of town and didn't know where else to go. On 6/19 around noon I received a phone call from ****, the employee in charge. He stated the work should done in about an hour after it was inspected. When picking up my TT I discovered *** person had tried to break in and had stolen my battery. **** and I agreed it was probably one of their employees so he paid for a new battery. At the time I didn't notice the spring was installed wrong. On June 25th I returned home and the man that owns the storage unit where I keep my TT said the spring had been installed incorrectly, one side was up and the other was down. On 6/26 I text **** telling him I would have to get this spring installed correctly and would like a refund. **** said he would look in the credit card app to see about the refund and that he was the one to contact with any future issues. I took my TT to a local certified repair shop. On 7/13 the work was completed and I was told Central Towing had not only installed the spring incorrectly, they had used the wrong spring length, and the wrong bolt size. Also, two of the bolts securing the spring were able to be removed by hand instead of by an impact wrench. On 7/14 I text this information to **** along with photos of my new repair bill, the springs, the bolts and nuts and asked to be refunded the money, $425.49 I paid to do the repairs correctly. I received no response. I've texted 5 more times with no response. On 7/26 I emailed the company directing the email to the owner ********************* and included the same photos sent to ****. I received no response. On 7/28 I called the company and left a message for ****** to read my email. No response.

We were contacted @ 4:47PM on 6/18/2023 by ***************************** about her having issues with her travel trailer. We were told she broke a frame support on her travel trailer. We dispatched one of our heavy wreckers to her breakdown location on I35/80 eastbound just after exit 136. When our driver arrived on scene @ 5:14PM he discovered that **** had broken a leaf spring and damaged the tires on her travel trailer. This type of tow required the use of a different truck to assist her. The driver waited with her on scene to provide emergency lights for her safety and assist the other driver who brought out a landoll trailer to safely load her **** explorer and travel trailer onto. While waiting for the driver with the landoll the first driver helped **** call around to local repair shops because she was just traveling through Iowa and needed to get her travel trailer repaired as soon as possible. Upon calling multiple repair facilities and RV shops they were told no one could look at her trailer in a timely manner. Our driver then suggested that we have a mechanic that does work on semis and semi trailers and could possibly look at the broken spring and replace it in the morning. She agreed to take it to our impound lot to have ************ look at it in the morning.
In the morning ************ was having trouble getting information for parts specific to the travel trailer. We then went through Husky springs and they had the springs they recommended for the camper. They were installed along with 2 new tires and the travel trailer was back in working order. **** agreed to the charges and paid. When **** was getting ready to leave she noticed her door looked like it had been tampered with and she thought the battery to the travel trailer had been swapped out. With no questions asked we replaced the battery at no charge. We have security cameras monitoring our property. I watched from when the camper arrived at our location all the way to when it left our lot and there was no evidence of it being tampered with.
On 6/26/2023 I was contacted by **** that there was an issue with her suspension and sent me a picture showing the leaf spring rolled under. I replied to her on 6/27/2023 that if there was an issue from our mistake I could look into refunding a portion to her credit card but from the picture it looked like the camper just needed to be jacked back up and roll the leaf spring back into position. She informed me that she was going to take it to a local shop. This was the last I heard from **** until 7/26/2023 through an email claiming a mechanic had to replace the springs. After this email **** sent the complaint to the BBB.
Now today 8/1/2023 I have contacted **** to work with her on a resolution of her complaint.

      Complaint: 20405464

I am rejecting this response because: **** with Central Iowa Towing and Recovery finally responded to me approx 2 hrs. after I filed this complaint. They were upset saying they hadn't received any of my attempts to contact them. **** sent me a text and when I responded he said my number was "grey." I don't know if this means he had blocked me in his phone or not. **** asked if I could get the leaf springs they installed back so they could possibly get a refund. I called the repair business I took the camper to and they had already disposed of the springs since they had no use for them. I contacted **** back and said the springs had been thrown out. On Aug. 1st at **** hrs. **** text saying, "I'm waiting for a call back from husky springs and I'll let them know I don't have the old springs." I sent 2 emails to both the business account and ****'s email account on Aug. 2nd and Aug. 4th asking if they were ready to discuss a resolution to this complaint. I asked for the amount of $425.49 based on the evidence I had presented. I have received no response to either emails and have not heard from **** through text messages either.

The response they wrote to the BBB to explain their side of what occurred is not factual to what happened. I broke down on a Sunday. No businesses were open so no one "helped" me by trying to call companies to see if they could make repairs. They couldn't see who tried to BREAK INTO my camper and who STOLE my battery because they parked it behind a storage container that blocked the view of my camper from the ONE camera they have covering their fenced in lot. **** and I did discuss that an employee was probably going to be responsible since the theft of the battery was attempted to be covered up by replacing it with an old used one. That was why they paid for a new battery for me. When I called **** back after returning home, I asked if he had identified the party responsible. He said they had narrowed it down to 2 employees but neither would admit to the theft so they were going to have to see if they could "catch them in the act" if they did it again and then they would be fired.

Only one discussion on Aug 1st has been received from Central Iowa Towing. No effort has been made to resolve this issue after my complaint even after several attempts by me to contact the business and *****

      Sincerely,

      *****************************
