I received a bill for a service 1/12/24 that I never used before for $350.00. I never called the ambulance and will not pay a bill I did not authorize. This is not the first fraud and wrong address for this company. I contacted the company and was told we don't help s*** like you and was hung up. On May 2nd, 2022 I went into complete heart block and 911 was called on my behalf by my wife. Area Ambulance Service showed up and took me to the emergency room at ***************** in Downtown ************. I am a disabled veteran and a retired Army Officer, and have Tricare West for my insurance. I had no choice in the Ambulance Services that came to pick me up. Area Ambulance Service received monies from Tricare and in doing so agreed to comply with the policies of the insurance company. Area Ambulance Service is claiming that I owe them $814.86 when the authorized amount to bill me $124.69. Two bills were sent to me. The first bill provide no due date. The second bill just said I was 30 days past due but since there was no date provided on the first bill, I am unsure as to what I was 30 days past from. Now they have sent the bill to collections claiming that I owe them $814.86 when the correct amount is $124.69. As far as I am aware Area Ambulance Service is an In-Network Provider and is bound by the terms provided by Tricare West which is to say that I owe them $124.69. If Area Ambulance Service disputes this state of affairs and are an out of network provider then this falls under Surprise Billing which means, in the *************, the dispute Area Ambulance Service has is with Tricare West. While I am perfectly willing to pay them $124.69 as the terms of my insurance dictate, if they wish to have the difference of $690.17 then they would take that up with Tricare West. Although, when I contacted ************ about this several months ago I was told they were an In Network Provider. That being the case I see this as fraudulent and would like to file a complaint. This isn't anyway for a business to behave.

      Business Response

      Date: 10/24/2022

Area Ambulance Service uses a third party billing service. Their posting person missed the write off amount so the incorrect amount was sent to the collection company. We apologize for the mix up and confusion. The correct amount of $124.69 is now recorded. Please see the billing manager's response below.

PCR stated Champus and hospital demo sheet stated Humana Tricare East.  Tricare East sent a denial that I received on 05/27/2022 stating claim was forwarded to Tricare West.  Tricare West payment was posted on 07/09/2022 and the adjustments or write off was not posted, so patient received patient statements.  Patient never called us.  Claim was sent to collections on 09/30/2022.  I received an email from **** with Convergence on 10/18/2022 asking about claim and stating balance should be $124.69 per the patient.  I reviewed the claim and found the adjustments were missed by QMC's poster.  I replied to **** that correct balance is $124.69 on 10/18/2022.
