The funeral home was on call to pick up my mother's body. The funeral home made it seem as if I had no other choice but to deal with them. I advised them that my mother did not have a life insurance policy and that I do not have money to pay for services. I went on to say that I did not want any services and that I only wanted her to be cremated.

I was advised that it would be over $3500 to do only just a cremation. Then the director took off $500 making my quite $3,080. I only had $50 to give them at the time and said I can pay that once a month.

A week later I received a call from the funeral director with the exact words "*** ********, I talked with the big boss and we're going to need more money." I was told that they will not order the death certificates until they get more money, and they will not release my mother's remains until the full $3,080 is paid.

In the initial meeting, I asked if there are any state services to help pay for cremation services, they said no, and then proceeded to show me their price list.

The funeral home did not provide any services and are demanding money. I did not choose this funeral home. They were the ones to respond to a 911 call and now it appears that they are trying to take advantage of me.

I attached a write up of the charges given from the funeral.

The following is what I believe I should be paying because the funeral home DID NOT, and stated they WILL NOT provide services.

$495 - Transfer of Remains to Funeral Home
    $30 - 2 Copies of Death Certificate
    $390 - Crematory Fee
$75 - Medical Examiner Fee ( Examiner Did NOT Even Conduct An Autopsy)

    Total = $990

Minus the $50 already paid should be $940

Please see the attached forms regarding Valerie Marion.  A price list was given to the family at the time of arrangements and explained at that time.  *** ***** signed the funeral contract and the cremation authorization. His mothers cremated remains are still here at the funeral home.  A statement was sent to *** ****** on 6/20/2023 along with a note indicating to please come pick up the cremated remains.

On June 20, 2023, I mailed ******* a statement.  Along with that statement I mentioned we have the cremated remains still at the funeral home, and asked ******* to please come in and or make arrangements to pick up the cremated remains of his loved one.

I am just the bookkeeper for the funeral home.  And at this time, I had no idea of a complaint.

I have attached a copy of the signed contract, the signed authorization to cremate form, and a copy our General Price List.

The funeral director in charge is *** *******.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The funeral director and staff took advantage of my wife and I during a time of grieving. This is funeral home negligence and misconduct.

We explained that we did not have money to pay for her cremation. The Director said he would work with us and keep my mother's remains. Now since I have contacted the BBB the funeral home is now saying through these responses only for me to pick up her remains, but I am still not allowed to.

We asked if her body could be moved and this funeral home was going charge $2000 just to do that.

No services were held at the funeral home. My Mother was picked up and cremated only.

That is all I should pay for.

I should not be charged $2500 for services that were not provided.

I expect for the funeral home to do what's right and not overcharge grieving families.

We are again asking for the cremation services charge of $2500 to be removed from the total and only charge us for the pickup of my Mother's body and the act of cremating her which is just under $1000.

We will gladly pay $1000 so her cremation can be considered "paid in full" to settle this issue.

    Sincerely,
