I purchased a grain mill from this company on 11/22/23, which cost $228. This item qualified for Free Shipping, so a total of $228 was charged to my card. I received the item on 11/28 but had to return the item on 12/5. The item was never used and the packaging it arrived in was never opened. The return policy on the company's website states that new items returned within 30 days of purchase will be fully refunded, minus the shipping charges. I paid to have this item returned. I was now informed by the company that I would not receive the full refund due to the fact that they will deduct for shipping. However, I was not charged for shipping at any point, only for the item.I've written to them to explain my concern with this and received fairly rude and argumentative responses from one of their customer support agents informing that even though I did not pay for shipping, they did, and they will deduct that amount from what they charged me for the item. It's my understanding that since this item qualified for "Free Shipping," there is no amount that should personally be deducted from my refund. My greater concern with this is that I have no record or proof of what this vendor paid for shipping, so the amount they are choosing to deduct from my refund seems entirely up to their discretion. This seems unfair and unethical.I have stated several times over email that I would appreciate the full refund, and I have been met with somewhat rude responses. I would appreciate the full refund. I have a screenshot of my invoice, along with my email exchanges with the company attached.Thank you.

    Business Response

    Date: 12/19/2023

We are certainly are sad that the customer was unhappy. It looks like he filed this complaint before we refunded him for the item without charging him for shipping as he requested. The refund was sent at 3:04 pm ** on December 8, 2023.
We hope this settles the issue to his satisfaction.

We are in the process of looking at our policy on the situation where a customer returns an item and will adjust it to make it right for all future customers.
That includes dealing with customer service representatives who are less than respectful. This is not acceptable behavior here at Breadtopia.

We are very sorry to have caused any inconvenience or less than excellent customer service, and hope ********************** is satisfied with receiving his full refund.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

A different representative within the company did reach out to me shortly after this complaint was filed, and they were very kind and accommodating.  I appreciate them refunding me, but, even more so, I appreciate their gesture to consider the wording used within their return policy.  Thank you all for your help with this issue.

    Happy Holidays.

    Sincerely,
