My husband stationed in ******* drove back from military leave and his car died along I-80 on his way home to ***** just half an hour east of *********. He found #1 auto repair and had his car towed there. At first the shop owner stated that it will cost $700 with the towing included to fix the car. My husband dropped the car off and got a rental car to come home, and on his way back to his duty station he got another rental car to go to this repair shop. The shop owner released the vehicle to my husband after he paid and left the shop, but car was not fixed. My husband waited there for 4 hours for the shop owner to come back, only to find out now there is other problems. Feeling frustrated and my husband needs to get back to his duty station, he reluctantly rented another car to go back to his duty station. Shop owner now said it will cost $2700 to replace transmission. Being that the car is special to my husband, I borrowed money & begged the shop owner to lower the price so that we could have the car fixed. He agreed to repair it with $2200 and stated that there are fluids and other things he is not charging us to get that price and I thanked him and asked my sister to ****** him $1500 and he stated that it will only be another $700 when we pick up. My husband requested leave and get to the shop at the time shop owner promised to have it done, it was not completed, my husband reluctantly got another car to come back and tried to pick it up on his way back, paid $700 and shop owner released the car to him again, it was still not drivable. By this time we have given this shop close to $3000 - car not fixed. So I decided to pay someone else to tow the vehicle but shop owner now refused to release the car claiming that we still owe him $770 with unpaid parts and storage fee. I called to inquire about this fee and he decided to cuss me out and not answer the phone. I suspect he never repaired the car and from text and reaction he wants to keep our car for profit.

Subject: Response to Complaint ID: ********

    Dear BBB Representative,
I am writing in response to the complaint filed against my auto repair shop regarding the repair and storage of a customers vehicle. I would like to clarify the details of the situation and provide my side of the story.
    Agreement and Initial Repairs:
The customer agreed to a total ********************** cost, and we completed the work as discussed.
The vehicle was ready for pickup at the agreed time, but the customer failed to retrieve it.
    Outstanding Balance:
Upon pickup, the customer had a remaining unpaid balance for repairs.
We informed them that the vehicle could not be released until the remaining balance was paid.
    Storage Fees:
After more than two weeks of non-collection, we waived storage fees initially.
When they continued to delay and dispute the balance owed, we informed them that daily storage fees of $45 per day would apply.
    Customer Dispute:
The customers wife argued that they owed nothing, despite our clear records of an outstanding balance.
Due to their delay and refusal to acknowledge the balance, storage fees were applied.
We have documentation of the completed work, outstanding balance, and multiple attempts to coordinate the pickup. We strive to be fair and reasonable with our customers, but we cannot release a vehicle without final payment.
Please let us know how to proceed. We are willing to resolve this matter in a fair and professional manner.

    Sincerely,

    ***** *******
