Earlier today, when searching online for information, I came across a snippet of an article on the Iowa City Press Citizen's website that I wanted to read more of. They required a subscription to do so, to which I found fair. I signed up for their offer of a $1 online subscription for the first 6 months followed by $12/month for every following month. Once I could access the article, I was dissatisfied with the gratuitous amount of flashing advertisements throughout the article. I decided that their news site was not for me and started searching for how to unsubscribe. After about 20 min of my spouse and I searching (and discontent that they did not have information on how to unsubscribe in "account settings"), I finally found how to unsubscribe buried in FAQ as the last question listed.Their answer is to call their customer service number. I called and was sent through an automated service that had unsubscribing as an option to which the automated voice informed me that I had to call back during their restricted business hours --- times that I am not available to make phone calls. I emailed their customer service and can only hope they will heed my request of cancellation. It is evident to me that this company is using unethical practices to intentionally put up barriers from leaving their services. I want this practice to stop. They need to allow unsubscribing in account settings 24/7 on their website. That is today's standard. In addition to updating their website and best practices, I need my subscription cancelled. To note: ************ also, without asking, automatically signs customers up for copious amounts of advertising newsletters to their registered email address.Buyer beware.
