March 27, 2023.Hired ***** to rebuild Carburetors on a cb450. He did the work over a week and I picked them up and put them back on the bike. After filling up the tank and testing the bike to find out it didn't fix the issue. He told me it was everything but the carbs and that he did the floats (I specifically asked) The next weekend that I had time to work on it, I go out and the carb floats let all the fuel go into the crank case. Basically costing me additional money and time. He was unwilling to help me or provide me a refund but just wanted me to wait a few week and he would have time to look at it then. I told him that I didn't want to wait, that I would be okay with a refund. He fought me on this and expected me to come to him to a refund when all I wanted was for it to me refund via venmo or paypal. I told him I would even meet him half way as the drive is a long one. He was unwilling to accommodate or fix the issue.

    Business Response

    To whom it may concern:

The young man who has filed this complaint approached me for help with his restoration project.  He informed me that he was on a budget and would like to do as much work himself as possible to save money.  I generally encourage people that express an interest in old motorcycles to learn and work on their bikes as much as possible.  The motorsports industry is one I have worked in for over 50 years and is something I'm very passionate about.  So it excites me to see someone of a younger generation get involved with vintage motorcycles.  To fulfill the customers request to keep costs to a minimal we agreed he would remove the carburetors' from the bike and bring them to me.  After dropping the carbs off at my shop, I purchased and installed the only available carb rebuild kit for such an old motorcycle.  I rebuilt the carburetors' using the new parts provided in the procured kit.  I used a high temperature, ultra-sonic submersion tank as well as high pressure air extraction methods to thoroughly clean all surfaces and passage-ways within the carburetors.  Technics I have performed and perfected over 50 years.  I explained the risks and common issues with restoring old carburetors and insisted he bring the motorcycle to my shop after he had the carbs re-installed.  At this time I would synchronize the carbs and make any final adjustments.  Because of the space requirement of the bike in my shop and limited labor resources, it would be two weeks before he could bring the motorcycle to my shop.  The customer did re-install the carbs on his motorcycle but never gave me the opportunity to complete phase two of our plan.  Instead he called me and complained that the carbs leaked gas and that he wanted his money back via Venmo or Paypal, neither of which are types of payment my business participates in.  This is an unfortunate situation, that I really wish I had the opportunity to make right with the customer.  Unfortunately, the customer has not helped me help himself, making this a very difficult business interaction.

I have also noticed the gentleman has left over 15 other reviews with the BBB and various local business.  Which leads me to believe he has unrealistic expectations, and is hard to satisfy regardless of the quality of service he receives.  An example of this would be the phone call I received on a Sunday morning, on my personal cell phone, expecting me to work on the motorcycle that day.  My business is not open on Sundays and I do not generally conduct business on my personal cell phone.  I strive to make all of my customers happy. I wish this customer the very best and hope he can eventually find happiness in the future services he receives from other local small businesses.

I am rejecting this response because:

much of what this response said is false. I never called ***** and messaged him via messenger.

second I never insisted on same day service.

third, there was never a plan or second phase of the work provided. Once the carbs were picked up he never talked about brining it back and through all conversations it was clear his intentions were to charge me to fix the carbs and his mess up. He did mention when I picked them up that they had just been done. Meaning he miss diagnosed and fixed a part that didnt need to be fixed.

fourth, the carbs emptied the fuel into the crankshaft making it so another oil change was necessary to run the bike. Meaning the work provided was done incorrectly on top of unnecessary.

fifth, there are multiple rebuild kits for those carbs. So that statement is false as well.

my request for the problem to be address or payment. ***** said he would only pay cash and Im fine taking a check. He also said he was unwilling to help me for weeks out. In business when you s**** up a customers job, you take care of them first.

i Never told ***** I was trying to save money either. I told him I didnt have time to work on it and he agreed to do the work. The only money brought up was a quote to do the work and payment. ***** also never offered to pull the carbs or take the bike. It was even at his shop and he said. Pull the carbs and bring them back. Never was additional steps or offering to do a full job.

Like any other mechanic that messes up. You dont charge your customers and you fix what is made wrong by you.

    thats all Im looking for.

my Reviews of other business are a reflection on the massive amount of money I put into this economy and that if the services paid for are not rendered correctly people need to know what businesses are doing shotty work. Mummys the word racing is one of them.

as my coworker that got his bike ****** up for months and the run around from ***********

All Im looking for is for wrong doings to be made right. Its too late to fix the bike, but the 135 dollars from the work he provided that was incorrect and the cost of the oil. No labor included. I feel this is more than fair.

    Sincerely,
