On July 3rd 2024, HSI replaced a section of gutter on our garage that had been damaged by a tornado event in May of 2024. On 7/10/24 my husband received an email invoice indicating a charge of $8492.50 instead of the contract price of $1854.00. Our salesperson would not address the error and on 7/15/24 HSI filed a mechanic lien against us for $1854.00. We did not even have a correct invoice. In addition they had overcharged us $750 for the project and the sales person told us dont worry about it because insurance approved it so they will pay it. In other words they were making our insurance company over pay by $750.00. The lien was filed on 7/15/24 and we did not receive a correct invoice until 7/22/24. We would like a COMPLETE RETRACTION of the wrongly issued mechanics lien with prejudice.

    Dear ***********************,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We sincerely apologize for any confusion or frustration this situation may have caused.

To clarify, the document you received on 7/15/24 was a Commencement of Work notice, not a lien. There is no lien filed on your property. A Commencement of Work notice is a requirement by the State of Iowa for contractors performing work on a homeowner's property. This notice serves to inform all parties involved about the contractor's right to file a lien if necessary.

Furthermore, we understand your request for a complete retraction of the wrongly issued ********'s Notice with prejudice. We ensure that no lien is placed on your property. You may check on the status of the notice here: ********************************************

I am rejecting this response because:

This is in fact a lien notice! It has been posted and will stay on our personal record for 10 years. Through no fault of our own but complete incompetence on your part.
    Sincerely,

    ***********************

    ******,
If you were to search your address on the Iowa Secretary of State's website at **************************************************** listed in our previous correspondence, you will see only a document titled, 'Commencement of Work'. There are no liens or other documents tied to your property.
This document will be fulfilled and removed from the Iowa Secretary of State's website immediately upon final payment on your account. There is still a $9,369.00 balance on your account, which when paid in full, will trigger the Commence of Work notice to be completed and closed out.

They sell a product called Leaf Guard. An estimator came to our house and gave us an estimate to do our gutters of $7,162,67. He wanted a down payment of ********. We gave him a check before he left. After a few days we decided it was too expensive and wanted to cancel our order. They said okay but it would cost us over $300. I told them that was unfair but they said they had to charge me. I had no choice to say okay if I wanted the remainder of my down payment. They said they sent me a check for the difference on April 19th. I have not received the check as of yet which is April 26th. Ive called them twice but they in so many words is its my problem and not theirs. They said they cant help me. They also said it should take 10 business days to come from ********* to ***********. I really dont think they care for customers and they are in it for the money only. They cannot be trusted.
