I went to get a emisin test. It didnt pass so I was referred to take my ***** sonic to united mufflers and brake next door. It has been the worst experience ever. After having my car in their shop over 10 days they finally decided to work on it. I paid *****. When I finally picked up I returned it few days later my car literally felt exactly the same. They are very bad about reaching out. The only time I can reach them is when I call. I was told my car now needs a different part,or possibly maybe a new transmission. At this point my car is still sitting in their shop. Its been another 2 weeks. Ive also paid around ***** now in a car rental and have not heard from them. I need to rent a car to get to work out in *****. I just want a full refund so I can take my car to *****. I really hope I cant get some help please.

    Business Response

Upon arrival of this customer we explained the process and also how busy and behind our shop was as normal with our facility and most shops in general. We still offered to get it in and checked out for him as soon as we could. Upon inspection and diagnosis there were codes p0011-- intake cam position, p00b7 -- engine coolant flow insufficient, p0597 -- engine coolant thermostat heater, p0442 -- small evp leak. During initial inspection the vehicle had no oil on dipstick so the tech added 2 qts to continue diagnostics. Found cooling system to be contaminated with engine oil which is a possible explanation of being low. Also the water pump showing signs of leaking. Oil in coolant is hard on coolant hoses, tested coolant heater and found to be bad and needing replaced. Smoke check evap system and did not find any leaks at that time.

The recommendations were to replace the engine oil cooler, flush the cooling system, replace the oil saturated coolant hoses, replace water pump, thermostat heater and change engine oil. Other maintenance item were recommended at the time of service which included, the timing belt had not been replaced, bad exhaust leak at the flex pipe, air conditioning was inoperative, and the transmission fluid was dark in color and smelled burnt all this is because of lack of maintenance. Unfortunately this vehicle has not been maintained or taken care of resulting in need of repairs which were discussed and approved by customer.

Repairs were performed as discussed and our 18 mile test drive was performed. Vehicle was released to customer. One month later customer came back to the office and stated his car had a check engine light back on, as explained before the shop was full and busy but we would do our best to get it back in and checked out for him. Diagnosed the car the second time with no diagnostic charges to customer and found that it coded again but this time only codes present being p0011 -- and p0442 so we retested the fuel and evap system again no diagnostic charge to customer finding a purge valve sticking intermittently so we replaced for customer at no charge as a courtesy.

Upon final bay test and road test vehicle had low idle and cause oil pressure to drop 3psi below specs per manual test affecting the vvt system causing the p0011. Engine runs fine but has to have internal bearing damage from lack of oil changes low oil and bad oil coolers. We let customer know what was found and that our recommendation would to fix the engine light problem be to replace the engine with good used or if wanted a remanufactured with good warranty. We also offered to our customer that we would provide engines at cost and swap over ************* previously purchased to help customer offset costs resulting from lack of maintenance. Customer denied us to help.
