I took my 1954 ***** pickup into Blazek, on October 4, 2024, for them to install a choke cable on the carburetor, expecting it to be around $100.00 and take them an hour. I arrived at 8:30 and since it was a simple matter, I chose to stay there expecting it to be done in less than an hour. However, by 10:00 it appeared there was a problem, so the owner came out and said they had just received the drill bit to drill through the firewall and dash-board and that it wouldn't be much longer. So I continued to wait. At 12:00 I found my way out to the shop to discover my hood up and no one around working on it. I inquired how much longer and they said 45 minutes. I said fine and went back to the waiting ******* 1:30, I asked a Tech who was walking through how it was coming on my pickup and he said they had found a leak in my radiator hose and they were waiting for a gasket. By 3:00, I went back out to the shop and there was a young kid working on it and said it be 10 minutes. I go back inside and at 4:00, a tech comes in and says it is all done. The lady who had my keys asked how I want to pay for it, and I had $150.00 in cash, so I said Cash. She replied that the charges would be $750.00, I said that isn't possible. Are you claiming that my pickup was being worked on the entire 8 hours, she responded that she didn't know. I recounted that on at least two of my trips back there, no one was even in the vicinity of my pickup. She replied that she doesn't create the invoice, but just collects the money as she moved my keys back closer to ******, the result was that I was charged $750.00 for a job that should have cost no more than $100.00. And I was there at that business for 7.5 hours instead of the one hour it should have taken.

    Hello,

As **** stated in his notes, Mr. ******* truck is not stock, so normal book times do not apply.  We charged him for 3 hours of work, which included two hours for installing a choke and one hour for replacing the thermostat.  He obviously didn't have an issue at the time of repair because he paid with a VISA.

We both find it rich when a client decides how long something should take and how much it should cost, when their vehicle has been completely altered from the stock specifications.  If it was that easy, it seems Mr. ***** could have done the repairs himself.  He said in his own words we had to drill through the dash and firewall, so an hour and $100 doesn't quite cut it.  He also seems to have completely forgotten that we also replaced the thermostat.

Tony's notes explain the time it took to do the work and he is quite detailed about what was done.  Mr. ***** didn't wait around for his paperwork, he just paid and left.

We hope this resolves the issue for all parties.

    Respectfully,

    ***** Blazek, Vice President

I am rejecting this response because: They did not repair, remove or replace the choke, they installed a choke cable. Big difference. It took them 2 hours to get the drill bit needed to accomplish this task. They "discovered" the bad thermostat gasket while it was sitting in their shop, very strange that it would begin to leak while the engine was off.

Yes, the pickup is modified, but they were well aware of what it was, having worked on it on four previous occasions when their business was on ****************

And they can ask their lady who had my keys and the bill how happy I was. I was incredulous at the $750, I said that can't possibly be. Her response was I don't know, **** (the owner) gave me the amount due.

By that time, after spending all day there, I just paid and left to try to beat the traffic.  Incidentally, ***** wasn't there, she left the office to go home at 3:00.

    Sincerely,

    **** *****
