On 31AUG2024 I provided a deposit for my wedding dress to be hemmed, fitting scheduled on 03OCT2024. Long story short, my wedding plans changed and I had to cancel her services. I attempted to contact the business owner 23SEP2024 through 26SEP2024 via phone, email, and finally text. It was not until that Thursday (26SEP) there was back and forth communication established (via text). As of 26SEP2024 no services had been rendered to the dress and we arranged a time convenient for the business owner for me to pick up the dress; 02OCT2024 was the soonest I could pick up my wedding dress. She was very sympathetic and understanding. She had insisted initial payment be made with cash or *****, and refused to refund the $300. I was not informed the deposit was non-refundable, there was no contract signed, and there was zero alterations made to the dress. She continued to claim that my dress made it so she could not accept other clients and thus denied her funds. To reiterate, nothing had been done to the dress by the time I contacted her, we were supposed to meet in a week for my completed alteration, and I had given her notice/time to afford the opportunity to not do anything to my dress (and thus pursue separate clients to fulfill the week). Long story short, the situation didn't sit/feel right. I believe she's running a small business and may not be reporting to anyone. My $300 will most likely be a lost cause. I would like to prevent this from happening to others and alert the need for potential investigation IF there is tax evasion taking place. Thank you for your time.

    Business Response

In response to the complaint filed, regarding advertising issues I respectfully disagree.
On August ******* , I scheduled an appointment with the client, where she was requesting her wedding dress to be altered. She came into my studio and I spent time with her, listening to her needs. At that time, I let her know that there would be a $300 deposit for the job. She agreed and I continued with pinning areas that needed to be altered. Before she left the studio, we scheduled a time for her on October 3, 2024, to come back to try on the dress, and the dress was to be completed and picked up by October 9, 2024.
I have a sign posted in my studio, which states I strive to provide you with your garments in the time frame in which you need. Please understand that any deposit taken for work to be completed is non-refundable. Deposits collected will be applied to amount due at the time of garment pickup.
Client did reach out to me September 26, 2024, to inform me that her situation has changed and the wedding is cancelled. I was sympathetic to her situation and tried to schedule a time for her to pick up her dress. She picked up her dress October 2, 2024, and then texted she was overwhelmed and wanted to know when she could pick up her deposit. I immediately let her know that deposits are non-refundable, as there is a sign posted; I have spent time on the consultation, pinning and any other work that may have been done, in addition to other jobs that were not taken to ensure that her dress would be completed by the desired date.
In her complaint, she is not taking into account the initial appointment was given to her (instead of another potential customer or client), the consultation where we went over what she was requesting to be done, the time to pin the garment to provide the desired outcome, the scheduling of jobs taken to ensure the desired date was met (which included jobs not taken), or the safe storage of her garment. Additionally, she stated her wedding plans changed so she needed to cancel my services, this is fine; however, deposits are non-refundable and posted for a reason.
As I mentioned, I felt bad for the situation she claimed to me in her text messages and I did refund her $100 via Venmo, even though that is against my policy. To find out on social media that she indeed had her wedding on October 12, 2024, makes me upset that I actually felt bad for her.
Lastly, I would like to just make sure that I address the last piece she implies, which is completely false and really a form of libel, which I may pursue outside of this complaint I am a small business owner, who has a great reputation which can be seen from the many reviews I have received; I am honest, hardworking and kind. While I do not take credit cards, I do take cash and other forms of cash such as VENMO, CASHAPP and ZELLE, which are apps that can easily be reported for taxes. Because not everyone is honest or kind, I have unfortunately had to make adjustments to payments and methods of payments taken, as a result of dishonest individuals who do not want to legitimately pay for services rendered.
