    I ordered from Patio Covers Unlimited of Idaho in Nampa ID 3 solar shades to have the shades on my back patio. **** said they could be made with a hand crank or wand and I pantomimed out to him that I was right handed and I would be cranking them up or down on my right side and made sure he knew that I was right handed and wanted the crank/wand on the right side. I also asked that the shades would come down to hit the edge of my patio. **** their salesman said yes all this could be done and they would be in a track and would be an outside mount. When the shades arrived with their installer ***** he said that if he installed them on the outside mount of my patio that the crank/wand would be on the grass side not inside the patio and I would have to completely leave my patio walk onto the grass to reach the crank/wand to raise and lower the solar shades. That would mean I would have to leave one shade up at all times to be able to get to the other 2 shades wands/cranks were on the grass to raise or lower them. I said that was not acceptable as the wand/cranks shld be inside the patio and besides the cranks were on the left side. ***** said he cld install them as an inside mount but then I would lose 2 feet of my patio when they came down and again the crank would be on the left. I said that was not acceptable my patio isn't that large to begin with and I certainly did not want to lose 2 ft off of it. He said they needed to be electric with a motor and he or **** would get back to me. It has been 11 days since this has happened, I have called twice no one has returned my call at this pt I would like my deposit back of ******* dollars, To get them motorized will cost me an additional I assume ******* dollars or more which I am not prepared to go that high. I already had an expense of ******* left on my order if it had been completed properly. At this pt I would like my deposit of ******* dollars back. Patios Unlimited said they have a no return deposit policy.

    Ms. ******** solar shades were ordered exactly as she wanted them with hand cranks on the right side and the shade on the outside of the patio. When our installer arrived, she said that she didn't want them that way. Since these are custom order shades, the deposit is non-refundable. We are working with our supplier to find out if we have them motorized at a reduced price to try to satisfy our client. We will alert her with the options as soon as we have a solution.

    ******:  I spoke with ******* in the BBB and my case with Patio Covers Unlimited in Nampa ID is not resolved.  I am hoping you can go back to the company to see if you can help me.

    Here are the facts.

    After they said they could put a motor in one of the shades the middle shade which is equivalent to my 2500. dollars which I accepted I assumed they would send that solar shade back to the manufacturer that was 3 weeks ago. When I spoke to ***** Monday, 5/5/2025, who is the son of the owner and the sales *** to me he explained that they would be putting the motor in themselves and I asked ***** is this something you do often he said No.  He basically said they never do it. He said the manufacturer company had explained it to them how to do it.  I said to him I wasn't comfortable with them doing the installation of the motor and the electrical component as it is electrical and if something goes wrong then I could potentially have a fire.  I really felt an expert the manufacturer shld be doing the motor and any electrical components on the shade but the company clearly wasn't willing to send it back to the manufacturer.  I asked ***** what other options he could offer me.  He said they could give refund my money which is ******* dollars minus a restocking fee and he didn't feel the restocking fee would be very much I said that would be fine.  

    I called this past Tuesday 5/20/2025 and spoke with ***** and asked if a check had been put in the mail to me.  He said that he had boosted up to his father the situation and asked anyone had called me.  I said no one had called me in the last 2 weeks.  He rescinded to me the offer he had made to me to reimburse me the 2500. dollars minus a restocking fee and continued to say to me he had no authority to offer that to me.  I cldn't believe he had rescinded an offer he had made to me, I then asked for his father to call me this past Friday 5/23/2025 to discuss this matter, the father did not call me.  I then called this Monday 5/26/2025 and left a message on the machine for ***** and asked him to discuss offers that I was going to make to them with his father and call me back .  No one has called me back.  Here are the 2 offers I made. I said they could take out of my 2500. dollars ******* dollars for restocking fee and forward me a check for the balance of ******* dollars, or I would take the middle solar panel with the wrong hand crank and discuss with their installer ***** **** way to put that middle shade up, there were 3 size solar panel shades made all of them with the hand crank on the outside of the shade and being that they were made that way which I honestly believe was not described to me if you had all 3 shades down on your patio and you were sitting on your patio there would be no way to escape if your house was on fire as you wld not be able to turn the hand crank on the inside of the shade as you would be inside the patio and the hand crank is on the outside of the shade how cld you escape. I had way back when told them having the hand crank on the outside of the shade wasn't acceptable and I honestly believe when ***** was at my house explaining how the shades would work with a hand crank that he had confirmed to me it would be on the right side on the inside of the shade...that was not how the shades were made.  They see it differently.

    I am hoping you can contact the Patio Covers Unlimited and see if they will accept one of my 2 offers.  So that we can resolve this once and for all.  I appreciate you assistance concerning this matter.

    Patio cover continues to leak. They have come out probably 20+ times now over last year+ to continually fix the issue by applying a sealant that does not work. In February 2024 we had leaking again and (after so many failed visits) I requested a structural change to address the root of the issue. All I got was more sealant. Now leaking again - not two months later? Contacted owner ****** 12 days ago and she has made no attempt to schedule a repair. Hasnt this gone on long enough? When will they finally come do a good job so we can all move on?

    Screened porch installed Summer 2022. Nothing but issues with leaks since then. Scheduled four repairs and still water intruding along the joints, corners, etc. Each repair takes a great deal of time to schedule and none have actually solved the problems. Ice collecting on walkways making them dangerous for my elderly parents (and not good for cement in long run), water draining in wrong places, issues with gutter pipe extensions. FIFTH visit now scheduled for Dec 5. Asked for call from the owner - can't get one. This was a VERY expensive project and we hope they will finish it accordingly so that we do not have to pursue the matter any longer.

    This is the response that I emailed to the client and the clients' daughter regarding the daughters continued request for service.

    I am the owner of Patio Covers Unlimited of Idaho, and I understand that you have a patio cover that is leaking and, you feel, that we've not been responsive to your request for a solution to the continued leak. First, I apologize that there is a leak at all. We strive to build all of our projects so we never need to return for any sort of service. That being said, there are instances when we do need to return, and sometimes, it takes multiple visits to really understand what is causing the issue and how to repair it. To complicate matters, as we move into cold or wet conditions, climbing onto the roof becomes incredibly dangerous for our employees, and sealing becomes virtually impossible as the temperature is not consistently above freezing, and the patio cover does not stay dry long enough to allow the sealant to work properly.  It's unfortunate that we were not able to resolve the issue before winter, but the reality is that we are not able to do anything to address the leak at this time. You mention in your emails to ******, and your complaint through the BBB, that we have come out multiple times without success.  That is only because my staff was attempting to make you happy by trying to fix something that we all know can't be fixed in this weather. If you want to continue to give out bad reviews, obviously, that is your prerogative, but please know that we will do whatever we need to do to ensure that your patio cover does not leak, but we cannot do it right now. When we feel that the weather is conducive to addressing the leak, we will schedule a time for ***** and ******, your original builders, to make any adjustments to the patio cover and/or downspouts to ensure that you will not have an issue with the water.

    *********** team came MANY TIMES IN GOOD WEATHER, as you know. No repairs were successful. After four visits, I asked for a phone call from you - never got one. Fifth visit in good weather from the "master builder" ***** - didn't fix anything and weather was fine. Now waiting on a SIXTH visit. Furthermore, what a complete waste of our time to send people when you claim you "know" the repairs won't work just to appease us--as you state?! No one from *********** team has ever said to us when they scheduled a visit that the repair would not work and that they were actually just coming to shut me up...What possible purpose could that have served for anyone? Surely only to delay resolution longer and cause greater frustration. Only recently did ****** say she was waiting on good weather (after a seven day silence when I sent in leaking pictures and never heard back from anyone and had to follow up yet again). Never did ***** or ***** make any mention on their many previous visits.


    There have been plenty of days with good weather. Today for one. Let me know when you can fix your work. If you can't - we will need to hire a contractor and pursue you for the damages.


    I see based on ******** and BBB that this lack of quality and service is not unusual for your company. Why not take this opportunity to turn your business around and develop your reputation in a more positive light? Many of my neighbors wanted to hire after seeing our porch - but none will now as they see how long drawn out this has been for us.

    Today is repair visit SEVEN. I have to take time off for every visit. Soon, we will need to contact local building inspector to make sure build was done properly and file report with State. I'd like to avoid small claims but we need resolution.

    My SEVENTH repair visit on 2/6/23 was also supposed to include filling of concrete that has cracked due to repeated days of water leaking into, freezing and splitting it. They left without addressing this issue. I would like them to schedule visit number EIGHT to get this done before the patio step will need replacing.

    As stated many times, it was warm ALL summer and fall and there were MANY visits that failed regardless of the great weather. Why weren't those visits successful? We had our TENTH repair visit yesterday and LAST NIGHT IT WAS LEAKING AGAIN. Currently trying to take more time off work to schedule ELEVENTH repair visit. This job was poorly installed and Patio Covers Unlimited does not know how to repair it.

    Furthermore, ******, the son of the owner and the most recent repair guy (who has now come three times) said it was an INSTALL problem and a FLASHING problem - not a sealant problem...so "winter" has nothing to do with it. This was poor construction from the get go which is why even ten visits haven't been enough to fix it. Hopefully, the building inspector can help us get to the root of it.

    The company came out for their 11th or 12th visit last week (I've lost track) and it is STILL leaking today. See pic from this morning. I will be contacting them today. Please do not close the case until they address this MOST RECENT leak.
