I bought a house that had no gutters. This business came and gave me a quote to do all new gutters. 3k. I had the work done. Now the gutters have done nothing to alleviate dripping down my windows and across entryways-which I was hoping for. I told the owner and showed how more damage is being caused because water is pooling under paint and bubbling the facia and could be creating mold. He claimed it was my roof and I should file a claim with my insurance. I had him come and explain what the issue is-and he says he sees this all the time(and it's my roof)...I said YOU are the professional, WHY did you place gutters if you should be looking for this on old homes? So now, to 'fix' my problem it would be another 3k! I said h*** no. I said I will have paid him 6k by then, and could just get a new roof and should have never had gutters installed in the first place! I told him I would rather have him take the gutters off! I am stuck paying for work that he should have recommended we don't do, they claim to be 'roofing' professionals. My home has much more damage on the facia because the gutters are holding water against the house..I don't know what to do, I want to take him to small claims to get my money back, and let them know they need to be the advisors-and if he 'sees this all the time', then he should be recommending a new roof not just doing c*** work because it's what I thought I needed.Business Response

*****, I read your complaint, upon our inspection which you and I, my project manager and your boyfriend who all climbed the ladder to confirm our findings. We all found that the drip edge above your gutters was the fault of your leak, and not your gutters. The gutter system that we installed on your home is built to flow water from what falls into it from the drip edge and out the downspouts and i submit that any of the water that comes across the top of your roof into the gutter does just that with no issues. The water causing damage to your house is getting under your roof from above or at the eave and traveling behind the faulty drip edge and behind the gutter we installed some of it is dripping behind the gutter other water is finding its way behind the fascia and behind your paint and into your soffit areas. We are sorry for this finding but it isn't the fault of your gutters. It is the fault of your drip edge and the roof above the gutters. We have informed you that if you want to repair properly the damage to your home it would require us to pull the gutters down (which we would do for free by the way.) remove some shingles over the drip edge about 2-3' above the faulty drip edge remove the underlayment remove the faulty drip edge repair the faulty fascia re-install new properly installed drip edge and then install ice and water shield over the drip edge (current underlayment is barely covering the drip edge because it is being held up by the fascia which causes a ledge for the drip edge to sit flat upon any flat surfaces in roofing cause water to back flow.) then reinstall starter strip and then tie in shingles to complete the repair. We also mentioned that if your roof wasn't installed properly above that repair that there is a slight possibility that the issue might be coming from above even still. this assumption is unlikely because the water damage would've already presented itself inside the house if this were the case. In conclusion your gutters are installed properly and will withstand the test of time and the issue with your leaking is coming from your drip edge which is the roof system not the gutter system. If you would like us to remove the gutters and leave them on site for you to perform this repair yourself we are happy to do this at no charge. If you would like us to repair the damage to your ***** on your home it will of course need to be re-estimated as things in the industry have changed in price since the last time we spoke. I hope this explanation was helpful.

I am rejecting this response because, as a roofing professional-who said they see this 'all the time'--I would have NOT had gutters installed and waiting to have my roof fixed. Now I have to get a new roof, take off gutters, and repair all the very badly damaged facia(due to gutters holding water back against the home). I want a refund and you are welcome to come take your gutters. I would have expected a proper inspection-instead you placed gutters knowing the roof had 'this problem'..?? Sorry, it is a professionals job to suggest the correct work. Not now give me a quote to FIX your job. Another $3k.Thank you,

We are getting a lot of rain right now-the house is being damaged as I sit and watch it rain. The gutters aren't draining-no slope or plugged? I can't tell.
I have requested quote for a new roof (from a different company) and also to just come and remove the gutters.
I need these gutters removed asap. It's horrible and I wish I had never followed this advice.Business Response

This complaint isnt correct on so many fronts i dont know where to start:
1. their leaks are caused by condensate in their attic unrelated to my roof installation this has been proven by a third party representative contracted by their insurance.
2. the siding is a dark blue siding installed on the hottest summer ******* ***** has seen in years, the buckling has been caused by the sun and there is not a lot i can do about that we installed it per manufacturer spec.
3. their insurance wont cover it because this client has made many alterations to their house and these alterations are the reason for the is***s they are having, the primary is*** being that they over insulated their attic space causing a blockage of air flow to let the attic breath thus causing the warm house air in the winter to condense on the inside of the attic space.
4. they have contacted an attorney, and this is the reason i havent responded to this complaint for fear it will be miss represented. ( we have responded to all attorneys that have tried to *** us, three attorneys havent taken their case this third attorney is for some reason and will probably drop the case after he sees no possibility of winning it and no promise of payment from a defeated party.
5. the black mold was present prior to the installation of our roof, and has gotten worse since their attic condenses, this cant be resolved from the roof it can only be resolved by removing a large amount of insulation in the attic which will allow the attic to breath. (brown ceiling spots also coming from the condensate)
6. the old tin i installed on the roof was installed at their verbal request for peace of mind while we were addressing the "leak" which we found out later was not a leak at all. we even had panels at my shop ready to repair as soon as weather permitted and then got a lawyer letter first before we were able to repair the old panels we put on for their minds sake.
7. the old panels did not stop the leaking because there is NO LEAK. it is condensate...
8. "i need 12,1800.00 is not a number, i assume she means ********* but this is strange that she would request ****************************************************************************************************************** my roof install so we have not paid this out because this is not our agreement or our responsibility.
9. whenever we try to tell her our findings she never understands what we are trying to say to her even if our engineer tells her and to put it kindly the house is in poor repair (understated significantly). so when we put a well installed roof on the top of a ran down house and siding installed on a ran down double wide which has been poorly maintained (improperly maintained, or not maintained at all) then has is***s with the radiant barriers of the house (insulation barriers). there is not a whole lot i can do about that... we have tried to help them come to solutions to fix these is***s by suggesting more vents in the soffits, pulling out some insulation to allow the vents to work properly and to add vents above the insulation if possible, but they are asking us to do these repairs for free which we wont do. the repairs to fix the is***s are not related to a proper roof or siding installation. and thus would be above and beyond the scope we agreed to do.
10. she says she does not like my attitude and i have been nothing but as accommodative as possible in this situation. even to paying an engineer out of my pocket to show her where the is***s are happening.
with this all in mind and with a pending lawsuit on this client i dont want to open the can of worms that responding to this request would cause...
how do i resolve this in the BBB so it doesnt reflect poorly on my side, i can provide scope of work, pictures, and texts from her...Basically she is the type of client that complains about everything and ***s everyone to make her living...
not sure what to do to appease BBB in this regard... please advise.
