We are building a house and ***** bid the electrical work. Because the bid was significantly outside our budget, we declined. ***** then offered to do the rough-in for $30k, this still seemed very high, but was within our budget. He assessed that the job would take 3 weeks. We agreed but got nothing in writing. After we agreed and he began work he indicated that the initial bid would not include running the power to the house. The initial 3 week estimate stretched into 4 months. We were at the job site every Friday and Saturday during the 4 months and never saw the workers at any point. At the end of the 4 months we received a final invoice. ***** claimed that the original bid was $31K and then added $21k for unexplained extras. Feeling that we had no choice, we paid the invoice in full. ****** later we realized that the job had not been completed. Circuit breakers had been installed for the ** unit and a mini-split, but no wires had been run. When we brought this up with ***** he claimed that these things had not been included in the original bid, although breakers were installed and their "to-do" list included both of these circuits. Wanting to move on from this experience, I had decided to install the circuits myself. When I called the electrical inspector for advice, He informed me that the rough-in inspection had not passed, and that we may need to remove installed, and now painted drywall to allow for final inspection of the electrical rough-in.
