I paid my entire rent upfront in the spring of 2022 for my fall and winter residency. Even before I moved in I was bombarded with calls. Each time they told me they lost my payment and each time I had to show proof I actually paid. When I finally moved in the calls kept coming. Because of this I decided to sell my winter lease. I found a person to sell to and was told my refund was being processed (minus the transfer fee). I would later find out they lied about submitting my refund. While they are consistently lying about my refund they also sent me an ILLEGAL demand for payment/eviction notice because they lost my payment. It was when I asked if the eviction notice (roughly a month and a half after they said it was submitted) was actually for me that I was informed they never submitted my refund. It took 2 more months for them to finally give me my rent refund. During this time they sent me the incorrect balance ( $200 lower than they owed me) because they "forgot and guessed", blamed me for the eviction notice, was unprofessional and unreachable, and they tried to charge me an additional transfer fee. I was harassed and consistently blamed for their shortcomings and frankly illegal behavior. Withholding a lawful refund, false and illegal eviction notice, not to mention the multiple violations of the lease unrelated to this incident. Finally a member of management called me and promised a refund of my transfer fee. It has been 2 months and I still have not received it. Not to mention they are now ignoring my emails. I would like my $100 transfer fee back and an apology- based on what this company did to me it is quite literally the lease I deserve.

I paid a fee for ending my contract early. When I submitted my rent, the fee was added a second time with my rent. When I requested a refund of the overcharged amount for the fee that was added to my rent, I was told it would take 30 days to be reimbursed. I was told that they didnt have a cash register, so they couldnt pay me back and that I would have to wait 30 days for it to be refunded. I paid electronically, there is no reason why it cannot be reimbursed electronically. If they have 400 residents, that they accidentally add a fee, for $100.00, to their account, that is $40,000.00 that they are holding onto for 30 days = making a profit on money that should be reimbursed right away. Something to remember is that these are college students that have very tight budgets. One hundred dollars is a chunk of change to a college student. I asked to speak with the supervisor and did not receive a call and they would not provide a contact name or number for me to speak with someone. I was just asked what a good time for the supervisor to call, although no one called. If rent is late, I am charged a fee. Although they can hold onto my money, make money off of it for 30 days and do I get the same opportunity to charge a fee? No, I cant even get my money back for another month.

    Business Response

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. I just wanted to clarify on what happened! ********* had reached out to our office regarding selling her Fall lease. This involves a $100 transfer fee. For some reason or another, the charge was accidentally added to both past and current account of hers. This was not intentional in any way. ********* had paid the $100 fee, but on both accounts. When we found out that this had happened we reached out regarding this, and we let ********* know that we would refund that extra $100 that she had paid in the form of a check. Once we received that check, we would reach out to her right away so that she could come and pick it ** in our front office. She said that she understood and left the front desk. Her mother then proceeds to call the office that afternoon very upset because she wanted the refund check electronically. However, that is not an option that we are able to do here at University View. We have since that phone call, given ********* her refund check and that issue has been resolved. The other issue I believe was that her mother wanted the personal phone number of a manager, and that is typically not a standard practice and we do not give out that kind of information for privacy purposes. However, *********, having worked at University View as an employee in the past, did have the contact information of one of the managers, *********************. If there is any further information you would like to gather, you can give our office a call during office hours tomorrow from 10am-5pm or you can email us at ********************************************** as well! Please let me know if you have any further questions!
