In March 2023, ******************* recommended we leave our 1970s paneling in place, fill, prime and paint over it, rather than remove and replace with drywall. After the job was completed, there was bubbling and blistering of the paint. He came and repaired, but it happened again, and worse this time, spreading to much of the treated area over the next months. He offered to fix it all, but wouldnt guarantee it and needed $800 more on top of the $1800 we paid already. No remorse, no apology, and he refused my request for a partial refund of $1000.

For me this complain is nothing. I do the job over one year ago, the job was really accurate. I give the owner 3 ways with 3 prices, first was to remove all panels and install new drywall, second was to install drywall over the existing surface, third was to install oil primer and plaster over. He chose the last because he don't want to change all the trims. The big room is with big humidity, is under the ground 4-5 feets, is without the insulation anyway I tried to do the best. After 8-9 months he call  and tell me to have a bubble on the wall, I was there and I fixed with new oil primer (cover stain blocker  from zinsser), I plaster over, sanding, primer and paint. After few months he said to be the same bubbles and from the amount of $1800 what was the entire job to give him back $1000. The job included repair the ceiling from water damage  and paint ( dimensions 34/12), paint a hallway and entire walls on basement, plaster the 2 walls with the problems and fix a baseboard on the bathroom. I said to don't give nothing back because I worked hard for the money and to give the low price because was my client.  The same I tell him to don't contact me anymore. This was the situation, if I have a negative feedback is your decision, thanks.

I am rejecting this response because:

His response is factually very bad.  Our family room is not high in humidity.  We have a humidifier that keeps it at 35% in the winter and a/c in the summer keeps the humidity around 50%.  Normal.
The job was not really accurate.  ******* formed quite soon after he finished.  He came after a week or so and repaired one section. As months went by, more and more bubbles and blisters formed throughout the room.  I informed him before the holidays in 2023 but he said he was out of the country.  He agreed to come look after he returned.
He refused to repair without $800 more and wouldnt guarantee the repairs.

We had a different contractor come in afterwards and remove the paneling and prep the drywall beneath and paint.  They said mud over paneling is not a good idea because the mud doesnt contract and expand with the wood. When removing the shelves and window trim, we clearly saw insulation in the walls.  I dont know why **** says there was no insulation.  He didnt even check.
The water damage repair was a different months-earlier job in our kitchen with a separate payment. I dont know why he is including that here. The baseboard repair in the bathroom was just filling a small gap in the base molding with some caulk.  It doesnt even match the color.

The bottom line is that **** does not stand by his work like most contractors should, and is refusing to give a modest refund for a botched job.

    Sincerely,
