Last Saturday, My dog Augie was attacked at Dogtopia by another dog and hurt badly. The injuries are more than a bite on the nose as Dogtopia is trying to make it out to be. The dog narrowly missed his eye and the inside of his nose could be permanently damaged. The Dogtopia blames my dog for barking at the dog. But my dog usually only barks if a dog is bothering him, trying to touch him or smell him for example. I was told that ***** sometimes barks when a new dog comes in to the room. I have watched ***** on the webcam and I noticed he usually barks at dogs when they bother him, try to touch him or smell him for example. Augie has been going to Dogtopia for 3 years and that never happened before. The dog that attacked my Augie is hardly ever there. That dog could have killed my Augie. That dog is much bigger than my Augie. I trusted and counted on Dogtopia to take care of my dog. I had a great deal going on Saturday and I had to cancel everything because of what happened and spend the rest of my day and night at vet ER and the bill was $1200 which I can barely afford at the present time. Dogtopia wont reimburse any of it and are acting like it was all Augie's fault and like he wasn't hurt that bad. The people there were my friends, or I thought they were. I give many of them **** presents every year because I considered them friends. My Augie is a good dog; still in puppy stage somewhat but a good dog.

Dear *****,We are truly sorry to hear how upsetting this experience has been and want to begin by saying that ***** is indeed a good dog. He has been part of our Dogtopia family for years, and our team has always enjoyed his sweet and playful personality. On the day of the incident, ***** was in the playroom when another dog entered through the transfer crate. As often happens in group play, several dogsincluding Augiegathered around with curiosity. ***** began barking at the dog as it entered, and while this behavior is not uncommon in dogs during moments of heightened excitement or arousal, it did continue even after several redirection attempts by our trained Canine Coach. Despite our teams efforts to de-escalate, a quick scuffle occurred between the two dogs, and ***** sustained an injury. Our team responded immediately, separated the dogs, and reached out to the pet parent right away to ensure ***** could receive prompt veterinary care. While both dogs involved have attended Dogtopia regularly and are generally well-mannered in open play, even well-socialized dogs can have unpredictable momentsjust like children on a playground. Although we have extensive safety protocols and staff training in place, its important to acknowledge that open play carries some inherent risk, which we make every effort to minimize. We appreciate the ongoing communication outside of this platform, regarding the financial impact. Our team is always here to discuss concerns, provide transparency, and work together toward the shared goal of keeping dogs safe, happy, and healthy. We hope Augie continues to heal well and feel better each day. He will always be a valued member of our community.Sincerely,Dogtopia of Arlington Heights
