On ****'s recommendation, we chose Gerber Collision & Glass to repair our car after an accident. Our car had relatively minor front-end damage from a low-speed collision at a stoplight. Our car was turned over to Gerber on 11/17/23 and it took almost a month to repair it. We picked it up on 12/12/23. The car was turned over to us in filthy condition. Gerber didn't appear to clean the inside or even wash the car's exterior before they gave it back to us. **** had already provided us with a check (minus our $500 deductible) for the repairs, but Gerber added $500 to the original estimate. We paid the remaining balance on the bill with our credit card. Unknown to us, Gerber had actually charged us twice for the final bill and also over-charged us $500, above the **** original estimate. Once our credit card statement arrived, I discovered that Gerber had charged us twice for the repair work, so I contacted them and provided proof of this double-charge. Gerber then sent me a check for one of the two payments and I then considered the matter closed. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, I received another call from Gerber, saying that there records still showed that I owed them the original amount for their repair services. I reminded them about the double-charge issue and that I had provided proof of the double-payment and that I had received a check from them to resolve the extra payment. Even after spending time to reason with them, they still insisted that I send them additional proof of payment. I declined their request and told them to check their records again for the proof that I'd already sent them. On 09/04/24, I received a "CERTIFIED MAIL" letter from Gerber, which threatened to turn my account over to collections if I didn't pay them the total amount of the "bill". After trying to get help from **** (no luck), I finally broke down and provided Gerber with proof of the double-payment for a second time. This is not the kind of company I like to do business with.
