My deck project started in October of 2020 to move the stairs and install ceiling under the deck so the space under the deck could be better utilized. The contractor - That One Carpenter (******) was selected based on pricing and a recommendation of our current landscaper. He proceeded to start the project and made fair headway until winter closed in, the next year saw additional progress, but material shortages plagued him due to COVID, which I acknowledged as an issue. However since then there have been no progress made and the project stands half finished - Stairs 90% complete, and ceiling under deck 0% complete. There has been intermittent texting back and forth over the last two years with promised dates to work on the project, but never showing! I have attached a document in which the initial quote is summarized, along with the subsequent two payments adding up to $14,117.04, the total for the job is $20,417.04. I have tried to get the return of money or at least the material to finish the job, but to no avail, just more useless promises to finish the job. I estimate that what has been done in labor and material is ********, and that is being generous since only 90% of the stairs and walkway has been completed. That leaves $4,825.38 in the two payments that has not been utilized, and I have asked for that to be returned or the material turned over to me on several occasions.

Dear ***************, I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to address the progress and challenges we have encountered with the deck project we embarked upon back in October 2020. As you mentioned, COVID-19 has undoubtedly taken a significant toll on the project, causing material shortages and the unfortunate circumstance of multiple team members falling ill. I fully understand the difficulties that arose from these circumstances and empathize with your perspective.
I am pleased to inform you that the stair relocation aspect of the project is now 98% completed. The original side has been closed up, and the landing and stairs have been built, including the decking, railing, fascia, and additional wrapped posts. As for the under-deck area, we have wrapped up work on seven posts, leaving only the ceiling to be addressed with the gutter. After the initial chaos caused by the pandemic, we were finally able to resume work. However, I encountered some issues with the employees I had hired, which greatly disrupted the job schedules. I genuinely appreciate your patience during this trying period, as my team went from five members down to only 1.5 individuals working on-site. I assure you that I am dedicated to putting all the pieces back together and delivering the completed project. I am reaching out to you in the hope of resolving this matter amicably and bringing the project to its long-awaited completion. Aug.21st will be the new completion date. As a result to the long wait I will still keep my side of the bargain and power wash your entire deck as promised free of charge.

    Best regards,

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me for the time stipulated in the businesses response above.  However if you review my complaint, this is his continual MO of saying he will do something and then not following through.  You now have a record of this incident, so if he does not complete the job by August 21, 2023 I expect immediate action from the Better Business Bureau to remedy this ongoing situation.  Please note I am TENTATIVELY accepting this solution based on satisfactory completion of the job by August 21, 2023, after which I will not be satisfied if not complete.  Also please note I put the full date including the year, because his excuses have been going on now for over three years.

    Sincerely,
