    I looked through **** to find a contractor to repair/replace our brick patio. Affordable Foundations came out on Sunday, 8/18/24 to give us an estimate. They could do the work that we needed and we discussed replacement/repair options. We negotiated price and timeline for the job. The assured us that they could work with the *** (have done it so many times) and get the necessary village permits. But in order to get that process started and reserve the work dates, and they were fully booked for 4 weeks, we needed to put down a deposit. We were getting "a huge discount" if we paid cash. We gave them a 50% deposit. Should have trusted our gut that this wasn't legit. Check was written to ***** *******, we assumed this was the owner. Maybe it is. Check cleared the following day. I reached out to my *** to let them know what we were doing and when. They let me know that they do not work with contractors, only homeowners. We needed to submit a request to the board for approval of the work and to submit a certificate of insurance. We contacted company by phone, never heard back. Contacted by email and were told that certificate couldn't be sent by email because of fraud, but they'd bring it when they started work. Back and forth about why that couldn't happen, etc. etc. Tried calling again, no response. Email is only avenue. All they would do was offer to do the work early. When I asked to cancel and get refund, was told not possible as supplies were already purchased. They'd have only bought cement which can be used for other jobs. Gave them options to give us certificate and do the work or refund us. They have ceased communication. Job estimate was $4500 to remove existing brick patio, fix grading and lay concrete patio along with cleaning and repairing stairs and sidewalk.
