I am filing this complaint regarding the poor service and unacceptable treatment my friend and I experienced at Chicago O’Hare Airport. On 10/15/2024, my friend, who is not fluent in English, unknowingly allowed her expensive medicinal shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in treatment set to be confiscated at a TSA security checkpoint. Shortly after the items were taken (within 20-30 minutes), I contacted the airport and was transferred through nine different phone numbers before being connected with TSA agents.
The TSA staff, particularly employees named Tara and Rueben, displayed incredibly rude and dismissive behavior. Tara sighed audibly, made condescending comments, and transferred me to Rueben, who continued the mistreatment. Both agents talked over me, refused to listen, and showed no empathy toward my friend’s situation. Despite the short time elapsed since the items were confiscated, Rueben callously informed me that they had already been destroyed, further adding to my frustration.
I am appalled by the way we were treated—not only was the directory service inefficient, but the customer service was also unprofessional, condescending, and utterly devoid of empathy. It is unacceptable that such valuable items were destroyed so quickly without any opportunity for recovery, especially given the circumstances and language barrier involved. O’Hare’s airport staff and TSA agents demonstrated behavior that reflects poorly on the airport’s reputation and overall service standards.
I am requesting this complaint be taken seriously and that TSA and O’Hare Airport review and improve both their customer service and product confiscation procedures to avoid such instances in the future
