Good morning, The **************** offered to fix the roof of my house and garage, the gutters as well as the windows by making a claim through my State Farm home insurance which was accepted by my insurance and the **************** did not comply with the promised repairs in addition to damaging the wood of the garage roof, which notice was given to Mr. ****** and **** who work for that company and they have not given me a solution to fix the damages they caused and they did not finish the promised work since they did not repair the windows, which they asked my insurance for money to do which was approved and as I mentioned they have not finished, I hope to count on your help to solve this problem, thank you.

To address Mrs. ***** concerns, Big City Construction offers the following explanation.

We were contracted by Mrs. **** to repair storm damage to her property. Despite an initial denial of her insurance claim, our persistent efforts over four months secured approval from State Farm to cover the damages.

During shingle installation, some nails caused minor chipping in the aged wood, a common occurrence with older materials that does not reflect poor workmanship. Mrs. **** raised concerns about the works quality, but we reassured her it was done correctly and provided a warranty for her confidence. At her request, our ******* replaced certain areas, even though these adjustments were unnecessary.

All window wraps were completed per State Farms approval. Additionally, we exceeded expectations by performing concrete work and fully reconstructing her chimney. Although State Farm only approved downspouts and leaf guards, we replaced all of Mrs. ***** gutters.

We have made multiple attempts to contact Mrs. **** to address any additional concerns but have not received a response. We remain committed to resolving any outstanding issues.

I am rejecting this response because:

To follow-up on Big City Constructions statement on this matter,
The shingle installation did cause some minor chipping visible at some locations in the garage but it also caused bigger damage. Damage where you could see the underlayment of where the shingles lay on. This was noticable at many areas in the garage because this is where I have a storage area and I don't have insulation between the rafters. This is the difference between the garage and my house because my house does have insulation between the rafters which I don't know if they caused the same damage. After I called to complain, Big City Construction dismissed my first complaint but followed up about their final check instead. When I expressed my concerns again, then they sent someone to check and take pictures of the garage damage. And the worker himself mentioned to me the job was done incorrectly. Instead of using a pneumatic nail gun, they pounded the nails with a hammer causing the damage. There were too many patch works that needed to be done and he needed to inform ****. So he left and never finished the work.
Also improper length nails were used because they protrude immensely from the roof to the under area. As I mentioned I use this area in the garage as a storage area. These nails cause a hazard to anyone who's not paying attention when they stand up. I have prohibited my 11 year old daughter from going up there.
As for the window wraps, 6 were completed and 5 were never done. The job was stopped because I was told by **** that he needed to first receive the final check from State Farm in order to complete the job. He needed the money to purchase supplies. **** cashed the last check and I haven't heard or seen him since. It wasn't until I submitted a complaint to the BBB that I started to receive phone calls from Big City Construction.
The concrete work mentioned was only 2 patch jobs. I was told they were going to add a layer of cement all around the foundation of my house where it was needed. Then all I would be left to do is to paint it myself. This was not done as explained.
As for the gutter guards. When the gutters were replaced, the worker doing the job, told me that he was told to use the old ones. These gutter guards are not new.
During this whole process, I feel, Big City Construction was not forthcoming with me on what State Farm had approved and what Big City Construction was going to do.
I have been aware of a few more discrepancy of undone work. I would like to somehow have a sit down with Big City Construction, myself and someone from The Better Business Bureau to demonstrate and provide proof to better explain my disagreements. I believe I gave them ample time to return and finish the work. During this process I made them aware I wasn't pleased with the way things were going but I knew I had to give them the opportunity to do what is right. This is where we are at this point.

    Sincerely,
    ***** ****

Big City Construction is committed to addressing your concerns and resolving the issues to your satisfaction. We propose the following solutions:

    1. Nail Protrusion Issue: We can trim or cut the protruding nail tips in the garage to eliminate any safety hazards.
    2. Wood Repairs: We are prepared to perform additional wood repairs as needed to address the damage caused during the shingle installation.
    3. Window Capping: The number of windows capped was based on the insurance estimate. We would be happy to review the insurance scope with you on-site to confirm that all approved work was completed.
    4. Gutter Guards: The insurance scope approved only the replacement of leaf guards, not new gutters. However, we replaced all gutters as needed. We are willing to review the insurance scope with you to clarify what was approved.
    5. Communication: We acknowledge that the original representative you worked with is no longer with the company, which may have led to miscommunication. We apologize for any confusion and are committed to meeting with you to explain everything in detail.
    6. Post-Repair Inspection: Once all repairs are completed, we are happy to cover the cost of an inspector of your choice to review the work and ensure it meets your expectations.

We are eager to arrange a meeting with you to discuss these solutions and ensure all concerns are addressed. Please let us know a convenient time for you, and we will do everything in our power to resolve this matter promptly and professionally.

I have been trying to get my project completed for over a year and a half. I have no recourse with the insurance company as they have already paid you. My contractor will not answer my phone calls or my emails in any kind of timely fashion, and will not give me any idea as to when the work will be completed. Village has started to find me because the work has not been completed.

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding ******************** complaint. We apologize for our late response.

Several issues came up with ******************** project.

It was an insurance claim and we had to go through an appraisal so the insurance company approved all damaged items.
As a result, there were Public Adjuster's costs and appraisal costs, and once the scope of work was approved it couldn't be changed.
One of the items approved was roof replacement. After old roof removal, it was discovered that the construction of the roof was in the form of spaced decking. Due to the building code requirements the spaced decking had to be removed and replaced with solid plywood. This cost wasn't paid by the insurance company. Since ******************** policy didn't cover building code items, we were not paid for other building code items like Ice & Water Shield, Drip Edge, etc. which we had to do in order to comply with the Village building code requirements.

Our company received part of the money from the insurance company and part was kept by *********************

We are in touch with ******************** to finalize the scope of work which will satisfy both parties.
