I have had a storage unit rented for 10 months. I have been signed up for autopay. After 8 months, they stopped taking my payment out by autopay, charging late fees every month. After the third missed payment, they sent a letter telling me I owed back payments and late payments. I called to find out what was happening and no one can tell me why the payments changed and stopped being taken out as autopay. After fighting to have the late fees canceled, I paid 4 months of payments, including the next month's payment (July) and they set it up for autopayment, again. Then in the first week of July, they are saying they never said they would waive the fees, I still owe all the late fees and now a late fee for July as well. They have threatened to put my unit up for auction. I can't imagine that is how a company can do business. They are claiming that "it must have changed due to new management", but I don't understand why they wouldn't need to contact you to tell you that they are changing payment methods, and they certainly can't take your money and change their story that they are still requiring you to pay late fees after they already said they would waive them because the error was on their part, not mine. I am meticulous about making payments on time and not having late fees, and I don't feel any of this has been my fault. I have paid all the storage fees they neglected to take out in the agreed upon payment setup. I have irreplaceable family heirlooms in that unit that I can't lose, so I feel like they are manipulating rules and intentionally miscommunicating to steal money from me by forcing me to pay them or threatening to take away irreplaceable belongings.
