Heartland Equine Health Center (formerly O'Keefe Equine Health Service) has been providing equine healthcare in Springfield and the surrounding communities for more than 25 years. Dr. John O'Keefe started the practice in 1983 as an equine-only ambulatory practice that was extremely diverse and provided care to most every common breed of horse in almost every horse discipline. In 2006, Dr. Rachel Boyce joined O'Keefe Equine Health Service as an associate. In March of 2010, Dr. Boyce and Dr. O'Keefe partnered to open the first equine-exclusive, multi-doctor clinic in Central Illinois and the practice became Heartland Equine Health Center. After Dr. O'Keefe left HEHC to pursue interests outside of clinical practice, Dr. Nicole Gilbert joined the practice as an associate veterinarian in March 2014. She and Dr. Boyce continue to provide in-clinic and ambulatory services to horses all over Central Illinois with an emphasis on Sports Medicine, Racetrack Medicine, Dentistry, Surgery, and Preventative Care.
