I prepaid for a burial plan for my mother ********* that covered all cost concerning her final arrangements. Prior to death in early December I notified the funeral home of an additional $800 that needed to be collected from my moms account at ********************** in *********, **. The check was sent directly from the nursing home to the funeral director. I was told since these funds were over and above what our balance was that it would be refunded directly to me. I verified that the nursing home sent the check and I verified that the funeral home received the check. The $800 is owed to me since her prepaid burial covered her funeral and final arrangements. I was told the check was mailed several times but it has been over a month and I feel like I am getting the run around.

My niece ******** ******** died three weeks ago tomorrow. Every time I call they come with a different excuse as to why she has not been cremated, or why the ashes has not been sent to Arkansas. I have not received one phone call from them. I paid them $1010.00 for the cremation and that money has came out of my account. I would like half of her ashes shipped to me and a death certificate.

    Business Response

    Date: 12/28/2023

In response to this complaint, there was a delay in getting the death certificate signed by the doctor.  We learned later that the doctor was not available to sign because he was out of the office for a period of time.  Once the doctor returned, he completed the death certificate.  We were then able to process it and get the necessary permit from the coroner's office to proceed with the cremation. We were not obligated to give any information nor send any cremains to the individual submitting the complaint because she is not the legal next of kin.  Mrs. ******** has a husband and son who were both handling the arrangements with the funeral home.  Even though someone else can make a payment, if they choose too, on a decedent's account it does not mean that he or she is entitled to receive anything.  The cremains were shipped to Arkansas on December 4, 2023 to Mrs. ********** father, at the request of her husband.  Also, I spoke with the person who lodged this complaint on December 1, 2023 and explained that the husband and son have authority.
