8/18/23 5 pm Myself and 3 others went to SCHMIDT'S TOWNE TAP for dinner. Upon receiving our check I saw that I was charged a surcharge of $1.21 on my DEBIT card. I questioned the surcharge with the waitress. I showed her my card that clearly states DEBIT. I told her that business could not charge a surcharge on a DEBIT card in ********. She told me there was nothing she could do about it. I asked to speak to the owner, she said he wasn't there but she would send KEVIN the manager. Kevin came to the table carrying a beer and said "What's the problem" I explained to him. he said "If you don't like it pay cash" I told him I didn't have cash and that he was breaking the law. He very condescendingly said "Oh I broke the law, why don't you call the police" all the while leaning over me in a threating manner. Then he said "Just pay the bill and get out" I told him I was going to report him and I need is business license. He said it's on the wall go take all the pictures you want. I got up and went to take the picture he followed me harassing me, telling me to "take all pictures you want, pay your bill, get out and don't come back. He also said "you are in here talking about something you know nothing about" I have found out that KEVIN is the owner of Schmidt's. I have also done even more investigation into surcharges on DEBIT cards and found ******** HOUSE BILL **** that prohibits surcharges on DEBIT cards. The bill does ALLOW SURCHAGES ON CREDIT CARDS. I also found that it is against both **** and MASTER CARD rules that the business that accept these cards must follow. They prohibit business from charging a surcharge on DEBIT cards. This is where Kevin doesn't know what he's talking about, because he thinks there is no difference between a DEBIT card and a CREDIT card. Kevin also bragged he has been charging this fee for "Several years ". This business has been breaking the law for several years he needs to be stopped.
