So about 2 years ago I was renting from a company called real estate options who was bought out by Chapman properties and they now own the building I live in. I was told by them that we were still under our old lease from the old landlord but when it expired we would be signing a new one. The lease has expired and they have not signed a new one with us yet they claim that they have one even though we never signed a new one and they refuse to show it to us or give us a copy. There have been several issues with this building since then. A windstorm blew a rain gutter off literally within the week that they bought the property and it's been two years and they haven't fixed it yet. There's holes in the roof allowing wild animals to get in, the wiring is an outdated fire hazard according to a professional and there are cracks in the ceiling that sometimes leak. Most recently there has been an issue in my basement with water from sewage backup flooding into the basement and it permanently damaged several blankets, boxes I was saving for when I plan on moving again and other stuff that is protected under renters insurance. It has been over a month and the landlord has yet to actually resolve the issue. They keep cleaning up some but not all of the water and clearing out the pipes but the flooding comes back a couple days to a week later. They have yet to actually break ground to get to the pipes underneath to find out what the issue actually is. The landlord seems content with blaming the tenants for the issue saying that someone is Flushing baby wipes although if that is the case it would have to be the downstairs neighbors because I don't use baby wipes and I'm tired of my landlord being verbally abusive to me for an issue that's not my fault. It's worth mentioning that I'm also a disabled individual with PTSD and high functioning autism so a lot of this feels like ableism. The landlord is not doing what ******** state law says they are legally required to do.
