    We used Booking.com in Jan 2023 to book rooms for the April 2024 Total Eclipse viewing event. We did a lot of research and picked Carbondale because of the length of totality. Prices were already climbing when we booked so we picked an affordable option since originally we were bringing our whole family. I confirmed the reservations twice between 2023 and now. I even asked if there would be a price increase and was told no. April 4th I received a phone call from University Inn stating they were canceling our rooms due to a water/electrical issue. I questioned the lady extensively about this more than once! I contacted Booking.com and eventually the owner of the hotel called me. Both assured me it was not a price gouging issue and that they would rectify the situation and find us alternative housing. We were driving from Central ** and leaving on our trip April ****** spent hours and hours on April 4th and April 5th on the phone and internet trying to resolve this. Booking.com offered an accommodation that had terrible reviews for bed bugs! The owner finally contacted me again late day April 5th but I had already made other accommodations 3 hours away! He had the nerve to ask if a tent in the grass would be acceptable!! Terrible customer service and no resolution or compensation for their blunder.
