I went to "xtreme armor" to have new steps & grill guard installed on my 1996 C1500 Chevy truck. I told "******" that a couple of the local mechanics didn't want the job because they were concerned that the cab/body mount bolts might break. ****** said; "I can do the job without breaking any bolts"+"I have a special tool for it." When I showed up for my appt. I asked him again: are you sure you won't break any of my truck cab/body mount bolts? he said; "I will stop before a bolt breaks". I went outside & waited on my ride home. Approximately 15 minutes later, before my ride home showed up, "******" came outside & showed me 1 of my truck cab/body mounts that he broke & said he is not going to finish the job or fix what he broke. A local body shop gave me a rough estimate of $900/$1500 to remove and replace the broke cab/body mount bolt. I will settle for $500. That will cover the deductable. That should not be a problem since the shop owner should have insurance to cover this type of situation. Otherwise, I will report it to the atty. general & consider other other legal action as well. ****

    Re: Response to ************** * *** **** *******

    Reviewing Representative,
                    I began
our business, Xtreme Armor LLC, in 2012.   This is an automotive and truck accessories business.
To date, this is the first complaint to the Better Business Bureau to the best
of my aging mind.  As a small business
owner, I take every compliment with great pride, and any complaint, although
    rare, with great seriousness.
                    In
speaking with the two employees that were involved with Mr. *******’s truck, I
learned that Mr. ******* came to our business approximately a year prior to
this matter and wished to purchase a set of step rails.  Given the fact this his truck was a 1996 with
and the cab/body bolts were the point of attachment, our employees declined to
sell or install the step-rails as the bolts are typically rusted in place on a
    truck of this age.
                    Mr.
******* returned to our business with a set of step rails that he had purchased
on-line.  Mr. ******* stated that he had
gone to other businesses who refused to attempt the installation of the
aftermarket rails, due to the rusted/seized body bolts.  At this point, Mr. ******* clearly knew the
risks involved, as he had been advised by a few different businesses as to the
    likelihood of a bolt breaking.
                    It is
accurate that our shop has a specialty tool that is made specifically to
rapidly heat a nut or bolt, and at times this will assist in breaking free a
seized component.  After being advised of
the risks by our General Manager, Mr. ******* insisted we at least try to
remove the bolt(s).  I can only assume
this is because he had a set of step rails that were useless to him if they
could not be mounted, and knowing that other business had refused to assist or
    attempt to complete the installation.
                    To
nobody’s surprise, the bolt broke with minimal effort.  Regardless of the requested amount of $500 to
satisfy Mr. *******, this is a matter of clear disclosure by our staff of the
risk involved, supported by other businesses advising Mr. ******* of the same
concerns, yet Mr. ******* insisted we attempt to remove a bolt.
                    I
understand Mr. ******* being unhappy that he cannot mount his step-rails,
however, we cannot in good conscious pay Mr. ******* for a known risk he
insisted upon being taken that didn’t produce the desired result.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

Mr *********, my original request for steps, in fact, was not declined by your employees as you claimed. I was never advised or given a warning by your employees that my bolts could possibly break if I tried to have steps installed. Not back then & not recently.  Mr *********, ******, your general manager, never ever advised me of any risks in regards to my cab bolts. In fact, ******, your general manager said he was not at all worried about breaking any bolts. Rusty or not!  Mr. *********, for you to say "it was to nobody's surprise that the bolt broke with minimal effort" is an untruth. Matter of fact, Mr. *********, your general manager, ****** said he was not concerned about any bolts breaking. Actually, after he broke the bolt, he revealed to me that he was surprised that it did break. Mr *********, you claiming that it is allegedly a matter of clear disclosure and that other businesses support your claim is aso an untruth. Matter of fact Mr *********, I can prove it and have two Witnesses. I removed the broken bolt that your general manager, ****** broke. + I removed the 3 other cab bolts without breaking them and with very little effort.  Mr ********* I have installed the steps and the grill guard, no thanks to you or your business. Mr ********* all of your claims lead me to believe that you were misinformed or you are twisting the story in an attempt to save face. Mr *********, My friend is a welder/mechanic and my dad is a retired mechanic. They assisted me and are my witnesses and my proof that the bolts were able to be removed without breaking them and the steps and grill guard were able to be installed easily and without breaking anything. My additional proof is the said grill guard and the steps that are currently mounted correctly to my truck. Again , no thanks too you Mr ********* or your employees at xtreme armor. Repairing the damage to my truck that was caused by your business cost me $250. Mr *********, if you want to do the right thing you would compensate me for those repairs. Keep in mind Mr *********, "word of mouth" travels fast and I have a lot of friends.

    Sincerely, **** *******

    Sincerely,

    **** *******
