On 29 Sep 2023, the contractor looked at our house & provide a bid to repair the water damage. He provided a proposal but no contract to sign. Before hiring, he told us it would take 3 months to complete. He started on 31 Oct 2023 & after 7 months it's still not done. When asked about installing the bathroom sink & replacing base trim that ServePro drilled through, he said it wasn't part of his bid because I didn't tell him it needed done when he bid the job. He then provided 2 revisions with costs for items not originally included & costs to fix his errors. He stopped work twice & refuses to complete the job until getting paid more. After threats to put a lien against our house the 1st time, we paid him $10,000 of the final $21,200 so he would complete the job. He completed some of the supplemental/add-on items but hasn't been back since 20 May & refuses to complete the job without more money. The insurance requires itemized invoices, but he refuses to provide them & told the insurance he's completed all the work. When asked to fix items not done correctly, he's doing inferior work, so we don't want him in our house anymore. He didn't install the shower controls correctly, didn't test it before enclosing the wall, so it doesn't work & he's blaming our water pressure. The living room drywall was installed incorrectly so every window/doorway has areas that stick out beyond where the trim needs to sit. He wants to "shave" the drywall down to allow the trim to fit flush, which would make the trim inset up to 1/2" in areas at every window/doorway. The inset plug that didn't sit flush against the drywall now has a hump where they added mud instead of fixing it correctly. We will need to hire a plumber to fix the shower. A drywall person will need to fix the trim areas & install drywall pieces that still need replaced, & finish mudding all the rooms to prep for paint. The costs to fix inferior work & complete the job need to come out of the amount owed.
