In June of 2023 I purchased a vehicle (2019 **** Escape with ******* miles) from Pennington Chevrolet Buick in ******, ** for $25,700. Yesterday (10/17/2024) I went to a dealership and learned that car values for $5,000 dollars and its only been a little over a year. I received the book out sheet from the bank which has little information. The retail and trade in prices do not seem accurate. I find it hard to believe that my car lost $15,000 in just a year. I believe I was over charged for my vehicle. Currently I am $15,000 in negative equity which means I will never be able to trade my car in for another vehicle because by the time it is paid off it will be worth nothing. This is not the first problem my husband and I had with this business.

    Response to Complaint ID # ******** - Ms. ********

    Attached are the following documents:

Buyers Order showing all information of buyers, vehicle, vehicle price, fees and any additional services purchased

The Approval "Decision" from the lender CEFCU

    **** Power Book Value

    Current Book Value

I want to start with going over the documents that were attached in this response. The Buyers Order will show the breakdown of the numbers. The selling price was $19,837. State Taxes $1,264. Title and Registration fees combined $351. Documentation Fee that is charged to all vehicles sold/deals delivered is $347.26. On the buyers' order it will also show that ************* was purchased for $900 along with a *************** Contact - "Extended Warranty" for $3,000. The amount totals up to $25,700. No cash down - No trade in

The approval provided through ***** which is the bank that approved the loan, shows total amount financed along with their given rate and term at the time of this decision. Lenders generally all have the same guidelines when it comes to approvals or denial of a client's application. An individual's credit and vehicle information are 2 main factors. ******* will loan X amount towards the purchase of a vehicle based upon the book values. ******* will allow additional dollars to their approved amount which accommodates for doc fee, tax, title, registration and back-end products like warranty, gap and other products for purchase.

The JD Power provided to CEFCU from Pennington Chevrolet shows what values were at the time of purchase. ******* will approve a certain Loan To Value with an approved application. Known as *** in lending practices. This varies based upon a bank's internal guidelines. If the bank had thought that the vehicle was overpriced and or charging too much, this would have simply been denied due to the book values vs what a dealership was asking to be approved. And to note, most all banks will require book values from the source **** Power

A current value report was pulled 11/04/24 with a mileage estimation of ******* which was gathered from CarFax as the last Odometer report was ******* on 08/08/24. This paper shows today's current book value on the vehicle through multiple book value sources. Each individual dealership has their own discretion to appraise a trade in value. However, we have not seen this vehicle for an appraisal to trade in. Therefor the prior dealer may have an accurate and or inaccurate assessment value based upon the current overall condition of the vehicle.

At the time of purchase 06/16/2023 the Selling Price was $19,837.74 which is in line with **** Power Retail values of $19,875. The value of vehicles tends to change with age and miles. This is information that is researched and gathered by many sources like JD Power, KBB, Black Book and others. Just like a New vehicle, the manufacturer determines the **** of that automobile.
