    Nature of Dispute: We decided to use *****, who runs Events by Design, for a family event that was going to happen in November of 2024. We paid $1000 in advance as security deposit to reserve the date, our agreement was that we can get full refund two months prior to the event. Due to personal reasons we had to cancel the event. So we asked her to refund our money. After I shared that I need refund, she stopped picking up my calls and stopped responding to my messages.

    Business Tried to resolve: No, she sent a message stating that we can use $1000 for other services in the future, but because we notified her well in advance, I need full refund. After notifying her that I need refund, she is not responding at all to my calls and messages so I am not sure if she is someone who can be trusted for next event.

    When we book an event, we take a down payment of at least $1000 to secure the date. The deposit is non-refundable simply because we are reserving the date specifically for the client and because we had to buy material for their event.  We have had many requests for that date and some have been for 2x the amount of this clients event. They claim to have canceled for personal reasons but we called the Venue it is in fact still scheduled. They never canceled. They decided to find someone cheaper, which is fine. We explained to the client that the deposit was non-refundable and offered to give them a $1000 credit towards any future event  or any services that we offer. At first they were very reluctant. They even went as far as harassing  me and even threatening me. The wife and daughter came into my shop to discuss the matter. The daughter was very combative but finally settled down. They finally chose to have me make a cake and some cake pops for the event they supposedly canceled.
