Arnold and Son came out to fix a pin hole leak in a copper pipe in the basement. They came up with 3 ridiculous prices with the lowest being $419 and the highest being $3,699. They claimed our water pressures were high, that the water heater was about to go out and that we needed a pressure safety system. A few months later we had a similar leak in a different spot and a different plumber charged us $180 for the exact same work!! This company needs to be shut down with their ridiculous prices. They also come in with a clipboard and handwrite a full page with different options that normal working people can't afford. What a waste of time!!Arnold & Sons Plumbing, Sewer and Drain Services, Inc.

There is no record of a job performed for a customer named D******* Johnson. However it's likely someone else's name was used for the house of record. With that in mind, we can only respond based upon Ms. Johnsons review, and the fact that the price of $419 is consistent with a price to repair a water line seems consistent with our charge that type of repair.
To our knowledge there was no problem with timeliness, response time, cleanliness, the issue we were called out for not being corrected. There was no attitude issues with our call center taking the call nor with the technicians that assessed and repaired the problem. Our prices were given upfront with no hidden fees. At this point I am unsure what we can do for Ms Johnson.
I certainly can't speak to what another plumber decided to charge. Because it was lower cost does not mean it was fair. Maybe they were feeling generous, maybe thats what they charge and if that's the case and they seem to be a good fit for Ms. Johnson, then we understand we are not the plumber for her.

after a sewer back up, we called for an evaluation. it started with a camera inspection, tree roots, 3 blockages and likely broken pipes. 3 options presented, 8 thousand to 40 thousand to fix. Opted for the line replacement at 40 thousand, not to mention we were told that our hot water heater was at the top end of its life and should be considered to replace. Agreed, at $2500 additional. Work began Feb22, which by midday, a knock to say there was a problem, Orangeburg piping had been found, needed to be replaced,$7903 more, 2/23 existing pipe from basement bath don't line up,$1900 to realign the existing pipe to the new pipe. Work finally continues until the city inspectors come2/28. STOP WORK order, after which we find out Arnold's had missed the elevation to the city line by 8 inches. Rec'vd a phone call about 30 min later, we now need a lift station installed for $32k in addition to the 53k already. STOP, we need to rethink this. The pipe installed over the course the past days, was removed and the trench back filled, Arnolds left the premises. Thurs a technician came to snake a drain they supposedly fixed & said he had to collect. NO not paying. 20 mins later a lead tech came, asked to collect. NO, 20 min conversation to explain why a lift station was needed, why the pipes were removed, and that the station would then only cost $16,900 as they are trying to work with us to resolve the issue. However, the $47,699.35 needs to be paid for work already complete. We paid $5,000 down which was cashed. Informed we would be looking for other options. Friday morning, a text to ask for updates, which we hadn't gotten any as of yet. As of 3/4, the only word from Arnold's was a text, "checking in & making sure everything is going alright, take care." After our response, no it's not OK, another text "I am sorry things turned out this way, keep me updated, still here for you." Today is March 5th we still have no working sewer.Arnold & Sons Plumbing, Sewer and Drain Services, Inc.

After being kicked off the job, it was our understanding that the customer was looking into other contractors for a cheaper price. WE are still waiting to hear what they are deciding to do as they were inviting other contractors to their home to look at the issue. Customer was apparently having issues with pricing due to what neighbors and friends had told them it should cost.
Dale said he was in contact with the customer during all this time asking where they were on deciding if we were coming back or not. In fact the husband told me that day to wait on cancelling the pump order until they knew more.
I have asked Dale everyday and he said they are still deciding. We are fine with the customer choosing to go another route. We just haven't heard what they decided thus far.Review fromGene J

This plumbing company is horrible. They specialize in overcharging senior citizens. Don't let them in your house.Arnold & Sons Plumbing, Sewer and Drain Services, Inc.

Thank You Gene for your honest feedback. We appreciate the opportunity in listening to our recommendations for problems and issues you had. You agreed to have us excavate your sewer and then called back and asked for a refund of the down payment. We were happy to oblige and did. We don't want anyone committing to a project with our company who doesn't feel on board with our solution and pricing.
I will take exception however that your notion of "over charging" has any merit. Quite on the contrary. We have 776 reviews with a 90% 5 star approval rating. The fact is that because another person comes to your home and says they'll do it cheaper doesn't mean the higher cost company is ripping anyone off. You aren't buying a washer and dryer. If someone is charging less then it stands to reason they are not doing things in their service experience that we are. Our culture is amazing, our teams are happy because they know they have a company willing to do whatever it takes to help them advance their careers, through education and training, offer a solid health insurance plan to protect them and their families, provide a clean working environment, retirement plan, and a strong company financially to provide room for future growth.
As a point of mention. This customer has not paid one dime to date. We refunded their down payment as stated, but also refunded the $119 nominal trip fee.
Thank

I was having sewer water backup coming into our basement for 2 days that I was pumping out of my basement on 9/6/2023. I called around and the first company that could come out was Arnold's and Sons. When the technician came out he took a look down in the basement and immediately started saying that my Plumbing was old, took some pictures and headed outside to get his camera snake. He only used the camera snake on the outside cleanout and said that the pipe coming into the house from the cleanout was broken/ fallen. Did not attempt to do any other work. He then without hesitation used any and all tactics to scare me into booking Arnold's to come out as soon as they had an opening. Oh and the cost of this repair.... A whopping $7,558. But since my plumbing is old and if anything where to break inside the house he was super pushy and said we would be smart to do the next step by coming a few feet into the house by breaking up some concrete into the basement which would cost even more $14,442. Mind you we haven't been able to use our toilets or our water for 3 days, he knew this he wouldn't put us down for work to be done without payment up front (I should have known better) SCAM!!! Never pay upfront. I never signed any contract. He never said anything about any cancelation fees, yet, less than 24 hours later when I call to cancel they threaten me with a $1,300 cancelation fee. That was never spoken to me nor was it on any paperwork I was given. No one I have spoken to says this is binding nor is it legal.
I called another company to have a look at my problem the next day and guess what... It's just a clog. They snaked it out/blew it out for $200.00 in 15 minuets with no problems!!! Arnold's is PREDATORY and I'm seriously considering legal action.
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY.Arnold & Sons Plumbing, Sewer and Drain Services, Inc.

Don we are sorry this is how you felt about your experience. As the good folks at the BBB will tell you, they don't give out A+ ratings to scam artists. If Arnold & Sons employed any of these tactics you are embellishing upon, on a regular basis, then we wouldn't be in business and since we do not do that on a regular basis then it must be assumed that we picked you out of a hat and decided to play deception. I assure you this also was not the case.
We will always discuss and offer costs and options related to a LONG TERM solution. Most customers are happy to entertain the notion of what long term costs are involved just as you were that day.
The standard fee to attempt to open the sewer line, restore flow, video inspect the line and isolate the location is $638 as written on your paperwork. You stipulated to the technician that instead of that fee you would choose option #3 for a cost of $14,442 and have a check brought to our office for 1/2 down payment. A man other than yourself showed up and deliver a $6000 check one your behalf which was NOT 1/2 down but we had no reason not to trust you at that time so we scheduled the work.
If the attempt to restore flow was not successful and you had not gone with any other option, we would not have charged you anything but the trip fee of $119.00. We are having a hard time understanding where you have been scammed.
At no time do we now or have we ever charged a cancellation fee. We only charge for the original cost involved with attempts and diagnosis in this case the $638 you originally agreed to at the start of the job. We are happy to waive that fee with the selection of a large option of that magnitude as we did. When you canceled your check at our expense you then became responsible for that original amount. That is all.
If you are under the impression you got $14,000 worth of work for $200 then you have yet again conveniently distorted the facts. You decided on a $200 temporary fix to a long term and repetitive problem. That is your choice. The long term option is not then a scam because the drain went down today and the problem has disappeared for now.
The next time this backs up, we hope another three days doesn't have to go by while waiting for another temporary solution. It's almost certain that a similar complaint to the Better Business Bureau will not be made when the drain line backs up yet again.
The drain guy charging you $200 and leaving you with the belief that this line is ok is (in our opinion) the real predator.
We are happy to part ways, absorb the costs, and agree to disagree.Review fromCheri S

1 starI had a plug in our sewer pipe causing backup in our basement. I called Arnold's and a person came out. I had already rented a root cutter to snake the line, ran it from my house and got out about 45 feet. Arnold's ran his from a cleanout on the outside of our house. He wouldn't run it from the inside. He claimed the sewer was broke right under our patio and that I needed a cleanout excavation. Total cost $10,058! He had all the information on financing and of course I needed to schedule it right away or it might be a while. And he kept repeating that it may not solve the problem because there could be something out in the yard farther. Something didn't seem right to me. How could I run a snake out 45 feet from my house before hitting a clog but he was claiming my pipe was broke right next to my house? After consulting with a couple people I was given a name of a company that would flush the line. I called them and they asked me who I had look at it first. I said Arnolds. He said "let me guess, they want to sell you a $10,000 cleanout excavation". So he came out and flushed my line. The clog was 45 feet out in the yard right where I thought it was. Absolutely nothing wrong under my patio. Camera ran through after the flush and the lines are perfect. Arnold's is a complete scam operation. They were going to bust up my patio, dig up my yard and mess up my landscaping for absolutely no reason but to make money. And since there wasn't a problem under the patio, the clog would not have been fixed which meant that they would have had to come out again, charge more and fix out in the yard where the clog actually was. Disgusted is an understatement!!Review fromCaroline N

1 starWe contacted Arnold & Sons for an estimate on a leak. They charged us a diagnostic fee, did not diagnose the problem, created an emergency situation that was not true, and caused us issues they would not fix.
We called out for an estimate on a leak. The estimate they submitted to us was not usuable. It did not address the concern for which we contacted them and suggested other services we did not need. They submitted multiple estimates to us in the thousands of dollars. Their estimates were priced extremely expensive including $700 to replace a leaky faucet (and refused to use the faucet we already purchased). They also recommended we replace our water heater (we did not ask for this).
They told us we had an emergency carbon monoxide problem that needed immediate fixing in the thousands. They told us we would die of poisoning if we did not immediately fix it. We have since had 4 plumbers look at it and all have said we don't have this issue. Lastly, they turned off our hot water and left us without hot water. We called them and told them they left the hot water off and they refused to turn it back on. They still charged us the diagnostic fee even though they did not diagnose the actual issue (a leak) We contacted the office multiple times to try to resolve the issue and they would not answer nor return our calls.Review fromMelissa C

1 starDoesn't stand behind their work. They charged me $2300 to put a water heater in and now my kitchen sink has no hot water. They will not fix it. I noticed 2 days after they put the water heater in that the top had water on it. They want to charge me to come look at it! Absolutely ridiculous! When I called another plumber to come fix the issue, he said let me guess. It was Arnold's and Sons! They account for 50% of my new customers! Save your money and call somewhere else!Review fromDave P

I also should have read the reviews before I called Arnold & Sons Plumbing. I called on Monday ad spoke to Amber, explaining that we needed an old water softener disconnected and removed because it was LEAKING and if they could do that as soon as possible. We weren't replacing it, simply removing and reconnecting the plumbing. I also told her we were on a well. Ashley said they would do an evaluation of our home and give us an estimate of repairs that were needed. I told her "No' we don't want an evaluation, just the softener maching removed. She said they could absolutely remove it and asked if I wanted to make an appointment. I told her I needed to talk to my husband first. Later that Monday, I called and spoke to Amber again, telling her we wanted to go ahead and make an appointment to remove the softener. She said she had an opening on Thursday and that the technician that would come would have everything he needed to do the job and would do the job on that day. Technician came today. Explained to him what we needed. He said he needed to do an evaluation of our home. Told him no, but he proceeded to do it anyway. Went and sat in his truck for over 20 minutes writing up an estimate. Says it will cost over $500 to remove the softener and when do we want to schedule for him to bring HIS TEAM out to do the job plus a power lift!!!! Keep in mind, this is a small water softener that I could've picked up myself. Plus, telling us our water heater needed to be replaced for $2,000!!! Needless to say, we didn't have it removed. So very disappointed that you can't trust people. It is SO IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH ON A COMPANY BEFORE EVER CALLING SOMEONE FOR SERVICE.Arnold & Sons Plumbing, Sewer and Drain Services, Inc.

If the customer isn't willing to follow our process then we are more than happy to walk. The equivalent would be going to the doctors office and refusing to get blood pressure and weight checked because you were coming in with back pain and thats all you wanted looked at. We have a specific few items we know we must check as these effect the plumbing system entirely and/or are the reason for 95% of emergency calls after hours.
Simply letting a customer know the status and age of their water heater and writing an option for what the investment would be is not telling the customer they need a new water heater right then and there. We find the vast majority of our customers..(4.4 out of 5.0 in fact) enjoy knowing the status of major fixtures, piping, and appliances BEFORE they are problems and what that investment would be.
Our technician Branson found this person to be highly combative from the beginning of the call. After attempting permission to do our evaluation, and the customer vehemently refusing it, Branson did what he was trained to do which is politely agree to disagree and walk from the call.
The customer was not charged a thing.Review fromRaymond C

1 starI should have read the feedbacks before I called Arnold & Sons Plumbing. I now see that many people have had the very same negative experience that I had yesterday. I needed a kitchen faucet installed and a replacement part for the pump in the barn. Instead of giving me a quote, the plumber went out and sat in his truck for at least half an hour writing up exorbitant estimates for things we didn't want or need--like a new water heater even though the current one is working fine and is still under warranty, or digging a 60-foot trench in front of our house because "maybe" there was a leak. Then we had to pay him a trip charge of $109. My advice is to stay away from Arnold Plumbing. I wouldn't trust them for any job.
